I know most of the things I'm about to request won't happen anytime soon, but I figured that having a list of them stored on the forums would be good.

I believe that Second Life will eventually be customizable to ends that nobody can yet see. Below is a list of the very many things I believe should be customizable through an "Advanced User" menu (because they don't quite fit in the "Debug" menu and having them sitting around for newbies would be rather daunting and scary). Keep in mind that some of these things may already be changable, but the simple fact that I don't know how shows that it needs to have a menu option. :D

Specific font size/style/bold/etc. of chat, llSetText, avatar names, script code, notecard text, and anything else that has font.

Drag and drop of GUI components. Resizability of GUI components. Ability to add customized GUI components to make your own shortcuts to things you need most.

Better minimization of windows. Resizability of all windows (some you can't).

Separate control profiles (so you can have separate GUIs depending on the task at hand).

Ability to re-log without having to close the client. Or at the very least, a procedure which closes your client and immediately re-opens and auto-connects a new client.

Auto-connection of client (I thought I was able to do this before... Double click icon and you're online).

Option to interact with the world as soon as your avatar is placed for others to see. As it is now, I have to sit and wait for the inventory bar to load while everyone else is chatting with me and I can't chat back. That inventory bar should be optional.

Adversely, give the option to preload other things (such as the map sims at all zoom levels and in all categories).

Make Bingo illegal. Hahaha just kidding ;)

There is an inventory folder in the inventory window. But we can't make any more folders on the same level as that folder. What's up with that?

When we have the ability to make customized gestures, allow the ability to replace any basic gestures (such as walking and sitting and flying) without the need of a script.

Toggle the ability to go higher than 100 meters off the ground without gravity forcing you down.

On-the-fly color.ini updating and the ability to trade them through SL as a separate object (rather than notecards that you copy and paste).

Feel free to add on to this thread. It will be known as the never-ending SL customization expansion thread. :D

A lot of these ideas are great.

One thing, though: if you go to your shortcut to SL and put after it -login <first name> <last name> <password> you can log in automatically.

I endorse all these features, I can't think of any myself right now though.

Banning Bingo, eh? Oh, uh, I mean, UI components in inventory, eh? :)

It's a good idea. The way I kind of envision it as working is that we'd get a seperate inventory object for XML UI elements... scripts could reference them, give them out... all that good stuff. It'd be very handy.

I'm pretty sure that this is how it works in 1.3. At least I never saw my inventory download in 1.3.

I have, but then, I've been logging in to the 1.3 preview on dialup.

Nope. With such a large inventory, it's a guarantee that I'll be forced to wait through the bar.

Changes i would like to see to the inventory screen.
03-29-2004 03:20
I would really really like to see a change to the inventory view, i would like to see it like the windows explorer,
the tree on the left side, and the contents on the rightside.
and when ever you select an object on the left side, it will show you the contents on the right side, this will allow us
to better manage our inventory and our objects.

On the right side of the inventory i would like to see atleast 6 columns, with the columns being expandable(width) and sorted just by clicking the column name like excel columns.

1 for creator name
1 for owner name
1 for group name (if any)
1 for creation date
1 for last updated date
1 for the permissions mask like GCMS
(where G = group, C=copyable, M=modable, S=forsale)

oh and at the top of the inventory screen a little thing called

I've noticed you haven't developed anything as popular as bingo. Is that why you post stuff like that? Or is there another reason? I ask in all sincerity.

Thanks,
Candie

At this point, I think it's just because there's a tradition of bashing bingo, not because there's any animosity behind it.

Yeah, I can remember bingo/lottery bashing as far back as when Kerstin had a lottery.

Has anyone heard anyone about Kerstin? Has she come back to SL under a different name while I've been absent?

It's just a common joke Candie, nothing personal. I don't know why you have to get defensive and tell me I haven't made anything as popular as bingo.

I mean... come on... I'm in the game developer's competition. Most of my work is off-world and taking up a lot of my time. Plus, I have made events that were popular enough to cause the Lindens to ask if I could host them more often.

If I wasn't so busy with college, co-ops, and the game development, I could probably host events that would get me some developer incentive awards. But unfortunately, I can't invest that much time in Second Life.

Please, all I did was make a joke. You don't have to insult my abilities.

Carnildo, bashing stems from animosity...

Darwin, unable to interpret what you mean. If you can clarify, perhaps someone could answer your questions.

Dave, I'm not being defensive, nor am I insulting your abilities. Rather I asked, in all sincerity, if a perception of mine was the possible reason for the bashing.

You say it's a joke, but there's nothing funny about trashing someone's efforts to bring a fun event to SL. Since the event is popular, one has to wonder why the trashing.

You don't want to answer in the same public forum where you did the bashing to explain the reason behind it, that's fine. It's an answer in itself.

Thanks,
Candie

Since you think that, by not replying, I am providing you with an assumed answer, I guess I have to continue this conversation.

Candie, your perception was incorrect. I was simply making a joke. The reason behind it was because I was in a chat with some friends when I made this thread. I was asking how they thought to expand Second Life's possibilities. One of them mentioned "make Bingo illegal!" and it got a big laugh. So I threw it in with a "JK" at the end because I was, in fact, just kidding. It wasn't bashing you or trashing you and you shouldn't feel that this is what has occured. I really try my best not to get on anybody's nerves in Second Life.

But, something you said has confused me...

"You don't want to answer in the same public forum where you did the bashing to explain the reason behind it, that's fine. It's an answer in itself."

I have already answered in the same public forum where I made the so-called "bashing". I am answering again now. Is there something more you are asking of me? Please Candie I don't want this to go on any longer :(
