I am new to this forum and was reading some of the older ideas. Some are pretty brilliant. But What I fail to see is if any of these ideas were ever actually read and brought forth into SL. Is this forum still active and do any of the Lindens actually read it.

The forum is still active. As to the Lindens reading it... not likely to happen.

ahh, Then like the rest of the forums that were developed to let the residents of SL have a share in government, the forum has been reduced to a vent hole. WOW! too bad. Some of these posters should be Lindens. But then again if they were would they still want to contribute?

This is a note I added after re-reading the post. I have to say that the above statement is with the exception of Torley and Kelley Linden. These two have been the only Lindens that have tried to stay up with the residents and their concerns. They by their numbers were simply overwhelmed and reached resonable burnout.

As long as you can log into the forums and see posts that were written yesterday or today then it's active. :P

Based on the sticky at the top of this forum, I think those of us posting here should consider that we are mostly just talking with other residents, with very little attention given to this forum by the Linden staff.

From: Torley Linden
Got a New Feature Request? Use the Second Life Issue Tracker!
Got a hot new feature idea? You can use our new Second Life Issue Tracker — be sure to do a search to see if your suggestion's already in there!

Be sure to read the instructions; then you can enter issues and vote for what interests you! Once logged in, you can view all issues by # of votes.

Over time, we'll be migrating to this from the older Feature Voting Tool, because it has better search and parallels the way we Lindens internally organize issues. However, it's still in beta, meaning we're still smoothing out the rough edges.

So while it may be true in a sense that a forum is still active if you can still post in it, if the question really means "Does posting feature suggestions here bring your ideas to the attention of staff members that make decisions regarding the introduction of new features?", I think the answer may be "No". We are supposed to be used the Jira tracking system to make feature suggestions to the Lindens.

This forum - or any forum, sluniverse and sl-forums and such work just as well, and have the benefit of being available to new users that don't have payment info on file - can certainly still be used to bat around ideas before making a new feature post at jira.secondlife.com.

There were many many voting propositions that had an idea worthy of evaluaition at their core, but the wording was contradictory, or ambiguous, or used an idiosyncratic and thus poorly understood style of speech, or had been composed by somone hepped up on bennies, or otherwise botched the evaluation of the idea by a bad delivery.

A place to discuss ideas before cluttering up the jira system with defective suggestions is not a useless thing.
