A friend of mine April Heaney has posted a JIRA for a new feature which I think is a fantastic idea.

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-805

to quote from her entry:

"As a logical extension from llGetObjectDetails(), a function such as llGetAvatarsInRegion() which returned a list of keys for avatars in the region within which the script is running would completely eliminate the need for creation of multiple objects which wander the sim for initial key collection for the purpose of sim-wide sensing. This would further reduce processor load and presents little additional opportunity for misuse over the current "multiple sim probes" solution."

Anyone who uses or writes any kind of sim wide sensing/radar devices should throw their votes and voices behind it. It would invariably help reduce lag in sims. :)

Might as well add llGetAvatarsOnParcel() to this request.

I'll let April know. But looking at that one, it seems a bit confused on what it's intent is, the descsription and comments are all over the place. I think limiting it to a region rather than an entire Estate, which can consist of multiple regions, is more reasonable. :)
