Heres my idea. I think it would be cool if the SL client could connect to shoutcast radio servers and play streaming music inworld so you could make some sort of radio object and have it set up so that ppl can right click it and click listen. then the client would connect to the shoutcast server and start streaming the music to them. It would also be set up so that the volume of the streaming music is affected by how close you are to the object, like it is with other sounds in SL already, but when you are a certian distance away the client will disconnect from the Shoutcast server. it would have to be shoutcast because anyone can host a shoutcast server. so to put my idea simply, id like to see streaming music in SL.

I have really wanted SL to add this feature for a long time. One of the only features of There that I really enjoyed was the streaming music support. People would love to have music in SL, and that is the best way I can see to add it. Make the SL software playback shoutcast streams. It would all be client side - the only trigger server side would be to cause those near the radio object to connect to the stream. Obviously some user controls would need to be added, but having streaming music support would add a lot of enjoyment to SL. I am sick of the horrible music objects right now - they suck and are so ridiculously resource intensive, I am amazed SL allows them at all. Please give us streaming music!

Hmmm, how about instead of shoutcast only, you do llOpenStreamingSoundServer(string host); then useing this along with the audio controlls we already have like the loudness and such, you could make it louder or softer.
Having it through a LSL command like so you leave open the possibility to do spur of the moment DJing from your own comp, and also the possibility of using other services other than shoutcast.
One of the problems with shoutcast is the Copyright issues on songs.
Other than that I think it would be cool to have a UI button for finding audio streams that were going on you could tune into, kinda like an in-world radio list.

actualy a command like that is exactly what i have in mind. but it would have to use one service because if you try to use more then just shoutcast servers or realoneservers you would have to make the client able to recieve all of those. i just think it would be easier to stick to one.
