The whole point of an IM client is ease of use and a "on-the-go" solution (like at work where firewalls are an issue)
I thought...woah cool...finally I can chat with my SL buds while @ work right?!
Wrong!
The same firewall restrictions apply and who the hell knows why they would go this route.
You have to install a seperate new client
You have to install SLim (which makes sense)
You have to log in once with the client so Viox recognizes you as a user (BS that normal users shouldn't have to care about)
You have to create a seperate login/PW (since Viox is a 3rd party...bad move there)
You have to have all of the same internet access that you would need to run the reg client.....another horrbly stupid move.
Sorry. Kill SLim and redo it the correct way.
What is the correct way?
Umm... Standalone service that is easy to setup and use.
Something that lets folks talk to their friends from wherever they are Firewall or not LIKE ANY OTHER IM CLIENT!
Sorry had to get that off my chest.
Thanks!

Agreed, SLIM doesn't solve any of the problems other than the fact that SL itself is a big program. It's not an open protocol, it's not a standard protocol, it's not firewall friendly... http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-419

Aren't you a Linden yet? ....lol This is a Instant Messenger, thats it. How could something this complex (compared to other IMmers) get greenlit is beyond me. Can you imagine the dev meeting?! Dev #1 "Hi Guys, we finally have a solution to users who want to use IMs outside of SL" Dev #2 "Oh Cool what is it?" Dev #1 "Oh its really easy. You DL a IM client and a special version of the regular client..." Dev #2 "huh?....." Dev #1 "....No it gets better. Then you have to register a new login for the IM client. Login to the special client and then (and only then) can you login to the IM Client" Dev #2 "...uhhh..." Dev #1 "Don't jump to conclusions yet. This will rock. Due to setup, this will never be mobile...and not only that we will use the generic SL Ports so people can really only use this at home" Dev #2 "...ok it's lunchtime, what would you like to eat"
