I've been bugging Lindens for a while about this, and i'm sure some of you out there have too! For those of us that are NON-Americans, the conversion is a killer on the credit cards! Probably more so for the people who own private islands!

I for one would like to see some sort of PrePayed PayPal thing. I would be glad to cover the 0.50USD + 2.9% it's much less then the conversion my creditcard charges me! I guess this could work as a prepaied system. Where the amount of money you put in prepays for X days.

I think they should require a CC still, so that if you cancle the payment back from LL they can put the charge on the CC.

I agree. Then I could go over to just using my Switch card via PayPal, and ditch that silly little Visa Electron account I have to keep transferring money into in order to pay for SL.

I refuse to get a Visa, Mastercard or AMEX credit card. Too risky.

If you cancel the payment, they cancel your account. Fair.

PayPal Option ...
01-05-2005 14:23
I'm in the United States, and I'd like the option as well ... for my Non-U.S.A. buds as well as for myself. If one is converting and transferring game currencies, it's already making it's way into PayPal, to have to add one more (often time-consuming) step to the process by sending the money TO my bank? Yick.

I know that they're working on it...Philip said so in a Town Hall and it's been in the forums, so I guess what I really mean is ...

BUMP!

I'm not in the USA but PayPal is NOT AVAILABLE here. While a credit card IS!

I think the conversion rate is pretty good, though, it's much better than on the streets/banks, converting to cash.

Madame,

Just as a side note, there is a free Mastercard Paypal Debit card available that is attached to your Paypal account - so it can be used anywhere Mastercard can - it just draws off of funds in your Paypal account. This won't help in the non-US prepay situation, but it is a convenient way to access the funds without transferring back to your bank.

Yes someone suggested this to me but it is US only.

With the pending cuts in stipend affecting basic account holders more than most could this be sorted out as a priority? I would love to be a premium but cannot be so at the moment.

It would also make it more accessible if you accepted switch/solo cards - using paypal would merely be a workround to paying with my solo card.

Sadly, Solo's probably asking a little bit too much - even most shops don't accept them!

Switch, on the other hand, is accepted pretty much everywhere in Europe, but LL don't seem to want to know.

switch cannot confirm age as far as I know. Only the main CC do.

Tho i do fully agree that a card should be on your account just incase you forget to pay that month or what not.

You see, our experts describe you as an appallingly dull fellow, unimaginative, timid, lacking in initiative, spineless, easily dominated, no sense of humour, tedious company and irrepressibly drab and awful. And whereas in most professions these would be considerable drawbacks, in chartered accountancy they are a positive boon.

I don't own a credit card.

I'll not own a credit card - I refuse to on principle.

I do, however, own a Switch card which is linked to a bank account with considerable funds. Why should I not be able to use SL?

Switch and Visa Delta are only available to people 18 and over. Solo and Visa Electron are available to people 16 and over.

However... afaik some credit cards are available in the US to people under 18 and LL accept those.
