I want to be able to destroy an attachment.

I want to be able to attach an object in an inventory.

Basically, I want to have one-shot attachments that don't clutter an inventory with trash.

Will this -ever- happen? I mean, seriously guys... this is basic stuff. We shoulda had this a long time ago.

If tampons are you thing, Nik. Sure. It's not really what I had in mind personally. I don't think there's anything wrong with em though, if that's what you want. How much would you pay for a tampon anyway?

I meant, a one-time-use item that is un-usable after the first time? Like a virtual tampon.

I'm not really fixated on the tampon thing. As many applications as we can come up with... it's all good.

I just want to be able to destroy an attachment.

If you wanna play with tampons, knock your lights out. Maybe you could start your own tampon thread.

Yeah, alright. You just don't understand what I'm saying. But that's okay.

I'd really be very curious as to how tampons even came to your mind if you aren't tryin' to be an [donky]. Or maybe you were, I don't know.

hmmm
these functions would be useful if they existed
CODE

llDetachFromAvatarAndDelete()
llAttachToInventoryToAvatar(string object, integer start_param)
PERMISSION_ATTACH_OTHERS

llAttachToInventoryToAvatar would attach an object from the scripted objects inventory; the on_rez event of the object would be called with start_param as it's value.
llAttachToInventoryToAvatar should have it's own special permission.

You are the new guy, right? Welcome to the forums! Either this place is about to turn around right away.... or you are gonna get discouraged and not bother.

But just for the record.... some good moderation is sorely in need around here. I hope to see a lot more of it.

I think there's a way to do what you want. It'd require some testing, but... it should work. Just make a script in the object that detaches it from its avatar when you want it to die. When it gets off the avatar (and rezzed in the world), have it call llDie().

There's a possibility it might try to do this in an area that doesn't allow scripts. To safeguard against that, set the object temp-on-rez before detaching. It should die within a few minutes. There's nothing to prevent the person from picking it back up and wearing it... so set it transparent before it falls off. If they do decide to dig around for it and find it, if you really don't want them to be able to keep it, make it fall off again, or make it wait a minute and fall off... they may be in a scriptable area by then. I don't know whether objects can detach in areas that are set no-build, but I'm pretty sure they can.

If you're unable/unwiling to script this, contact me in-world, I might be willing to consider writing this for hire.

Lex, according to the wiki, llDetachFromAvatar leaves the item in your inventory. The research I've done suggests that this isn't possible yet.

However....

If you want to play with this and you can come up with something that works... I would be very very happy to pay you for it.

One-use items are possible, i.e. Oz Spade's Snow Crash thinger which I've enjoyed, but yeah -- it remains dead in your Inv after.

Would be cool to... DISAPPEARAH!

I don't know what people's various motivations for the things they do are, so I'm not sayin' this from a moral high-horse or anything....

But to me, leaving a dead item in your inventory is only going to cause an object owner to think bad things about the creator at some point. Despite what I post in the forums, I try pretty hard to avoid that sort of thing.

The way it stands right now, any of my builds that will require delete-after-use will just not get made. ::sniff:: I could do a lot with that.

Whoa. Oops, I'm sorry... I'll have to play with this some. I could swear I remembered someone mentioning detaching as a way for a script to get around no-build zones. I'll mess with this when I get a chance.
