I know this has been brought up before, but there seems to be no change and it is really ruining my 2L experience. As is stands, if you uncheck the "see me on line" option for one or more friends, one can still see that you are actually on line if they IM you. That is because the IM sails right through without the STANDARD off line message coming back. Nowadays it is not unusual for someone to send an IM in the hopes it will be delivered later. And other friends just may be 'fishing' to see if you are on line.
I don’t like to alienate friends by coming up with excuses why I don’t have time for them. Life would be much more simple if I just appeared off line.
This cannot be too difficult to fix, right?? And it would make a huge difference to me how and when I would actually get on line.
Please!! Please Fix this!!!.
(If I am wrong I would love to know it!)

This type of thing has been brought up in Jira various times. The exact thing yer describing was closed out as a "WON'T FIX"...although I forget the original issue number. These do pop to mind tho: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-493http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-85http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1136http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1408

Well I looked at the four of these citations and none related to my description. Similar but different (such as using the search function, Group issues, adding friends). So it seems it has not in Jira yet, unless I am missing it elsewhere. And if I could fiquere the darn Jira out I would do it myself lolol.

From: Aimee Congrejo The exact thing yer describing was closed out as a "WON'T FIX"...although I forget the original issue number. Right...that's exactly what I said...yer exact issue was in Jira but a Linden closed it as a "WON'T FIX" cuz when yer online, yer online, and IMs getting thru is behavior as intended. I just can't remember the issue number and can't find it again. So I thought I'd be helpful and post links to other similar issues that you might be concerned about and vote to fix.

Still this begs the question why "wont fix"? Because from a practical standpoint the "off line" box is not an option. I know, I could just tell ppl I did not want to be bothered, but as one may know, there are some sensitive ppl out there. *wink* DD

You can set yourself busy, and set the busy message to "User is not online -- message saved." or whatever... but it won't fool everyone because it won't necessarily look exactly right.
I also hate how people friend me only to see that I'm online when I decline the friendship offer. Happened to me just today. Argh.
