/me w00ts at the new & improved search and is wondering if operators like AND, OR and NOT are supported and, if so, what the syntax is.. Have tried spelling them out and using +/- and other things I could think of but it seems to all be OR'ed. If they're not supported, consider support for this suggested, please. :)

Also, Talthybius, it's at least 3 characters so all the examples you complained about not being able to search are, in fact, searchable.

Sorry, "And" ("+";) is not currently supported, but it's a great idea...moving to feature suggestion :)

http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/01/17/search-places-now-finds-all-words/

From: James Linden in the Blog

Search > Places now finds all words

In the release last week I broke Search > Places by unintentionally converting it to an OR search. Thus, “tea house” would find the most trafficked parcel with the word “house” in the name or description.

As of Second Life 1.13.2 we are using adjacent word search, like using quotes in Google. This is similar to our old search. Thus “tea house” will find a parcel named “James’ tea house” but not “James’ house of tea”.

This may change in a future version of Second Life, as I think matching “house of tea” makes sense. I would also like to add operators, like +tea -house “earl grey”

Vote for prop-2726 to let LL know you want the last part, too!! Wouldn't you love to be able to search for something and be able to say you do not want results that advertise the words casino or camp??

/me shouts "Clear!" and puts the paddles to this thread...

I've added SVC-86 as the JIRA version of this suggestion. Please vote for it.

As a query; how exactly does the current system work? I'm given to believe that classifieds search based on all the words within the description (since classifieds that keyword spam come up even if the title has none of the words I entered).

However, my own classified ads don't come up for searches where I put in two words. Say my description was; "A really nice classified you should totally search for this" and my search was "nice search". My classified wouldn't come up, so my guess is that currently the search is being treated as a phrase which kind of makes it difficult to refine my results.
At a minimum I guess I would like at least for the keywords by default to be treated as independent ANDed words. ie both of them are required, but may be anywhere in the searched text.

In database terms though I'm also wondering, which is quicker, doing a fulltext search for "nice +search" or doing a search by tag using query logic (ie "SELECT DISTINCT * FROM table t, words w WHERE t.ID = w.TABLE AND (w.word = 'nice' AND w.word = 'search')";).
Asking this because I'm still in favour of tagged searching, but hadn't really thought about how flexible the searches can then be, though I suppose the tags themselves could be indexed and fulltext searched.
