Wouldn't it be cool if we could browse the events of the day and click a checkbox next to events we liked to have SL automatically remind us when they start? This could be extended to categories of events, so you could choose "Scripting Classes" and "Builder Classes" to only get reminded when those classes occur.
This could eliminate the need for the Lindens to announce everything globally...
Just a thought... I'm not even recommending that this be done... but what do you guys think?

Nope, I don't like that idea. Some people go on impulse. And I don't like the new way of announcing two events together. One sees the first and the second gets lost in the shuffle.

I sort of like both ideas. I like the global announcements, but I sometimes ignore them cause I see them so often. It would be nice to have a built in reminder.
I definately agree with Pituca about how they are annouced. Each event needs to be a seperate annoucment. Sometimes its like, "Starting in five minutes is SL Basics with mentor at Dore and oh yeah, there is a contest in Gray." The message has more detail and is longer, but thats my point, one is not done justice with the single message. Each needs to be a seperate annoucement about one minute apart.
Careful scheduling by the host can help to avoid being lost in the fray on annoucements like that. Its not always possible, but try to host at a unique time so your are the only event to go too.

I guess I wasn't too clear in my original post. Basically you could log on, view the events for the day and click a checkmark on each one you wanted to be reminded for. Right before the event you would get a notice (from the server, not a Linden) saying "The event you wanted to be notified about - Underwater Basket Weaving - will start in 5 minutes." There would also be categories of events to choose - for instance - "All Lessons", "All Scripting Related", "Everything", etc. You could check and uncheck these just like regular events. Everything would be selected by default, so it would remind you about everything. The reminders would be the same as they are now, a few minutes before each event. The idea behind this suggestion is to remove the notification for some of the events you aren't interested in (reduce screen spam) - and make sure that you don't miss the ones you are interested in. Also, maybe it would free up some Linden time so we can get SL updates a few minutes earlier.

I like the idea. I hate Event spam when im in the middle of a conversation so this option would be cool to me. Also I would like in addiion to the reminder an offer to teleport u directly to the event not the nearest telehub.

i want a "do not call list" for Linden event announcements. why do they always announce events right in the middle of dinner? ok that last part is a lie.

Me, I just wish my events would get announced ... period. Jeff is the only one I don't have to remind 5 minutes after my events start.

I like the reminder idea, and I think there should be an "opt-out" for those who don't like the event notifications.
I started working on a script that reminds a person on set dates and times, I got stuck on one thing though, but I'll try working on it some more incase a built-in reminder doesn't come out soon.
I think it would also be good if there was an option for reminders to email you, often I'm out of world and I forget there was an event I wanted to attend.
And I also agree that you should still have the option to be notified of all events.
