Hi all, I was thinking, it'd be nice to get a dialog so we know what kind of permissions we've offered an object to someone with. I say this, because for two days, I've been giving out a script that I was under the mistaken impression was mod/copy/transfer. (On a related note, if I've given you an animation overrider that wasn't m/c/t, bug me for a new copy) Countless number of times, I'm sure we've all mis-set permissions. It'd be nice to get a dialog telling us this. "You have offered Object(mod)(copy)(notransfer) to Joe Foo" While I'm here ranting about permissions, I'd also like to suggest a recursive permission setting system. eg. Right-Click -> Set all contents and contents of children to have mod/copy/transfer permission. Thanks for reading

This would be good. Most of my creations have multiple scripts and I frequently forget to set the permissions on one or more, specially if it's not in the root prim.
This is sort of a half step though. What we really need is a way to set permissions on everything in an object/prim all at once. Preferably we could set permissions for things for which we are the creator, from script. llSetPermission([PERM_MOD, PERM_COPY, PERM_RESELL, PERM_SHARE_GROUP, etc...]); This would presumably set permissions on a linked object. A corrisponding function would be llSetInventoryPermission.
Even more off topic, we need llSetOwner. This would take an avatar key and pop up a dialog on their screen. Object at this position has offered to transfer it's ownership to you - Accept, Decline.
Oh ya, also related. Creators should have full perms, period. If I give something to someone and it's say copy only, and it has problems so I want them to give it back, well the copy they give me is now copy only permission. Come on, I created it people! simple comparison test, if owner == creator then full perms.

I endorse everything on this page.
A note though, creators should have full permissions *if* given the object (I'm pretty sure thats what you meant, but I just want to clear it), meaning I should not be able to walk up to a prim I made, but someone else owns, and edit it. Only if they give it to me should I get full perms back.

Great idea... I hate getting some generic inventory object and not knowing anything about it till I get it!
2 other ideas I have along the same lines:
1) Have objects purchased/given to you default drop into a directory folder called SHOPPING BAG or ITEMS GIVEN so you don't have to hunt them down in your inventory list!
2) More finely tuned permissions, such as allow/deny tinting of clothing, allow/deny retexturing, allow/deny addition of objects to the Contents of the object.

Agreed, but with a slight twist - I'd like to see a version of llGiveInventory (and related) that allows us to set a specific set of permissions at the time of giving. Some of my objects I sell for individual use only, and also sell a (more expensive) resellable/copy version. Rather than have two copies of the same object with just differing permissions, I'd like to be able to just set the permissions appropriate at the time of sale.

I think this should be escalated, because I for one am sick of spending hours setting "Next Owner Can" permissions. It honestly shouldn't be a big deal to add object/inventory recursive permission settings.
If it IS too much trouble, then maybe re-enable/fix/finish llSetObjectPermMask and llSetInventoryPermMask and we can write scripts to manage our permission settings.

LOL. It's amazing to see how old this thread is, and yet, it's still so relevant. 3 years and still not implemented... *cries*

Wow.. Didn't even notice that it was necro'ed until Darien called it.
Either way, I like these ideas. Somebody JIRA them and I'll vote. Only tweak is that I'd rather it just say what permissions the object doesn't have. So "You have offered Object (no-transfer) to Joe Foo" instead of spelling out the perms it does have.
