I was just thinkin', maybe LL should implement some kind of, umm, you know, age verification thingie, something with, umm, passports and social security numbers, I'm sure everyone would love it and be real glad that LL was spendin' time doin' stuff like that instead of boring old tech stuff like fixin' sim crossings or making telports work 'n' stuff like that.

thats just silly, why would they ask for more information than all the specificly pornographic web destinations do? maybe if they gave it to a third party it would be 5% safer or maybe they'd sell our info to advertisers. i wonder if they would charge us to give up our personal information, cuz you know, everyone on the internet would take it for free, but the labs have to make a buck or two for it...would be awsome to finally be able to teleport somewhere and hit a big ban wall covering most the grid too, think they can add that simultaniously?

Nooooo, we should replace the moon with the new sun and have in game implementations of sunburn and skin cancer!

With regards to verification though, I think they'd be much better off dedicating time to verifying thet we don't have STDs. After all, everyone is in SL for sex. You wouldn't want to be meeting skankmeisters who give you the clap now would you?

PLEASE, LL you still have not addressed the following,
Age verification issue, You have failed to: Tell us who the third party is, if we are to entrust our privet info to a third party WE the costumers have the LEGAL right to know who this third party is. Are they a privet company? local law inforcment? a special Team put together by LL?
What is the garuntee that this currently Unknown to us third party will respect the privacy laws and NOT store he info unless requested? is LL Monitoring this third party? Why should we entrust our privet info to a third party we know nothing about?
what about security? how securer is this third party?
Who do we hold accountable if a security breach occers at the third party?
What about third party credentials?
I believe we have the Legal right to view those too.
What garuntees do we have against Identity theft?

I refuse to submit any of my privet info to a third party untill you guys address ALL my concerns and questions regarding this issue.
I do NOT feel safe nor secure releasing my privet info to a third party I know nothing about.

How are we to submit our privet info? by photocopy? By Scanning into our computers and then E-mailing it?
How often are we to pay this fee? how much do free accounts have to pay? what about those of us unable to get a credit card for what ever reasons or can’t access pay-pal?

I was thinking that if LL said they would start having some kind of age verification thing that it would make everyone so incredibly happy and meet with such universal support that all the users and all the Linden staff would just start having parties non-stop from now till the end of time.

Great idea about making the moon big. Can't have too big a moon. Here's an idea: make the moon take up 180 degrees of the celestial sphere, and make the sun take up the other 180 degrees. This will save the money otherwise spent on needless blue skies and blackness with white dots in it.

I'm supposed to be more positive in my posts, so I'd just like to throw in a few comments about stuff I really like. First, about the sim crossings: flying in a straight line for ten seconds, and then reappearing somewhere further back on the flight path is more fun than a barrel. Not a barrel of monkeys. Just a barrel. Having scripts revert to how they were a hour earlier is great - it's like time travel! As a long time science fiction fan, this is a real delight. And rubberbanding while building, how could one possibly say too many nice things about this entertaining phenomena? It's said that practice makes perfect, well, I guess rubberbanding is a tremendous aid in the path to perfection, because by the time you get an object to stay at the size and postion and orientaton you want it to, you will have had many many chances to practice putting it in place.

I wonder when we'll see the age verification celebration party announcements? One thing to remember, though, anyone planning to attend any age verificaton celebration parties, be sure to bring your ID. Not your id. Uppercase. ID. Well you can bring your id too, what good is a party without your id?

...friends, Romans, SuezanneC, if Reuters is right, there no age verification be:
SECOND LIFE, May 9 (Reuters) - Linden Lab’s plan to introduce an age verification system in Second Life hit a speed bump on Wednesday when it admitted it had not yet secured a verification provider.
...
“There is no contract with Linden Lab and there is not likely to be one in the next few days,” said Integrity spokesman Michael Colopy in a phone interview. “This thing is not settled.”

“There is a productive discussion in place between Linden and Aristotle,” Colopy added. “But in my experience, less than one in five productive discussions turn into contracts. There is no rational basis to assume a deal is going forwards.

Maybe we should make the moon yellow. With sharks. Sharks with laser beams coming out their eyes. That would be so frickin' cool!

I'm still wondering when LL will start running ads in the sky.

This cloud brought to you by... Integrity Express. When you just have to have someone verifed overnight.

Maybe a normal looking sun and legible text could be available to premium members.

I think maybe we're all confused, maybe the hub bub is not about age verification, it's about cage verification. To make sure your "> : )"s are the genuine article.

Why did they make the announcement if they didn't even have the damn deal done? Can they not communicate anything properly?

Everyone knows LL are incapable of holding productive discussions on age verification :p

I have a relative IRL who is a secretary in the local social security office. I asked them if it's illegal for a online virtual world to require a users social security number for any reason, and she told me YES!

For your discussion:
http://www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs10a-SSNFAQ.htm#1

FAQ #4

" I tried to open a new account with a private business, but the business requires my Social Security number. They say they will not do business with me without the number. I do not want to give it out. What are my rights?"

Usually you are not legally compelled to provide your Social Security number to private businesses unless you are involved in a transaction in which the Internal Revenue Service requires notification. The Patriot Act requires financial institutions to verify customers' identities, which can involve the SSN.

There is no law, however, that prevents businesses from requesting your SSN, and there are few restrictions on what businesses can do with it. But even though you are not legally required to disclose your SSN, the business does not have to provide you with service if you refuse to release it. So in a sense, you are strong-armed into giving your SSN. This is often the case when applying for insurance and opening utility accounts.

But don't give up. Be sure to ask if there is an alternate number that you can provide to the company, such as your driver's license number. Also ask if you can provide a deposit rather than giving your SSN to the company.

For more information and on advice for dealing with these situations see Fact Sheet 10 www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs10-ssn.htm

For more information on Patriot Act requirements, see Fact Sheet 31, available at: www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs31-CIP.htm.

Brenda's post does make sense, but i still don't think LL should have any right to require this information. The reason for that is because I've been a gamer for about 15 years now, and none of the games i purchased or online games i have been subscribed to have ever asked for it. I don't think LL should be any more special then the others. It may not be a game, but none of the other "virtual world"'s ask for it either. I don't feel safe with giving them this information. I've been a customer of LL for 2 1/2 years and i don't deem them honorable of this type of info. if i do have to give out my SSN, I'm going to ask for Philip's in return. it's only fair to have a even trade.

lol, you could just quit like almost half of us on here are probably going to do if they enforce it. Sadly LL is not thinking straight, they think 4 digits of S.S. number will not be hard to crack but lets recap this 0-9 digits it can be 4 are given and there are 5 not revealed. Who feels like that is an easy puzzle to solve raise your hands. Let me help you out say my last four digits are the Os

XXXXXOOOO

that means each X has 10 possibilities to be right correct. Then we just need to go through and figureo out the numbers which can be 10*10*10*10*10 or 10^5 which is, 100,000. Now if someone was to use software that could what crack it in an hour. You can clearly see why I am not going to stay with them if they do. This is totally retarted and simple to do as a puzzle. Sadly if someone gets your S.S. Number, You are screwed. It is the main way of identification and no offense only the college and Driver Registration asked me for it my whole life so I feel that clearly proves a point. Yes registering for my job this summer will probably require it but that is for background checking. SL has no need to require this at all for the age, They should just have us show some form of identification like school ID or a driver's license.

______________________________________
Also I am not some sort of genious for thinking this up but it is clear that anyone who passed the basics of algebra can do something like this and it is really not smart to give out any part of a number that is that important that your whole life depends on.
