First and foremost, I would like to salute the Lindens for protecting the waterways in the newest southern sims. I hope these efforts are continued as additional sims come online.
Now I have three requests concerning protected waterways.
Some of the waterways are set to have items auto-returned. This is an excellent option, but the time needs to be extended to one hour. It is currently set to one minute. One minute is terribly inconvient, it prohibits leaving a boat unattended to greet shore goers, or for whatever reason.
Enforce the protected waterways. Return items built over the protected areas on a regular basis.
And to the residents. Be aware of the protected waterways and respect the reasoning behind them. They are there to ensure free travel via boat. Please dont build over them.
Thanks for your consideration.

I think there might be a problem even with setting it up to 1 hour, 2 hours or 1 day for that matter.
AFAIK, the auto delete time is not started when an object enters said auto delete land, but rather, runs every x amount of minutes. So even if the land is set to 60 min auto delete, and you dock your boat at minute 59, you still have the same problem.

I thought this too, as I was wondering what if a scripted object entered a parcel just as it was about to run an autodelete, but it appears that each object gets it's own independent timer. So with this information, it seems your objects are safe as long as they don't stay in any single parcel for more than a minute. If it were the way you describe, then the autodelete would have to be added to llScriptDanger() -- although I think it'd be nice to have an llGetParcelAutodelete() anyway...

Set it to return (rather than delete) items once a day like in Cardova?

I like this idea, setting it to autoreturn not more than once a day, across all the protected waterways.

I went to the vehicle rez area in Noyo (which has a five minute autodelete) and rezzed a sphere every thirty seconds. The average time before return was 5:20, with times varying from 5:06 to 5:49.

Interesting thread. I brought some land on the northern coast of Bodega that includes a little L shaped inlet. I managed to get all the inlet which also means I have a fair bit out into the ocean, up to the protected waterways. I was planning on eventually building a jetty around it so people could drop their boats off, come onto the land and come back again.
So, in view of this thread, what would people suggest I do with auto-delete? Does auto-delete actually mean auto-return? Or can you only return things manually? I don't like the idea of not having objects removed at all, otherwise the place might just get cluttered up, so what sort of time limit would you suggest having? Seeing as it appears that auto-delete has a seperate timer for each object, presumably setting it to a few hours would mean that you have a place to drop the boat off for a few hours and be able to return to it.
And what happens with prim-limits and vehicles. if you leave it on the land, is it going to count against my prim-limit until it's removed?

hmmm.. i like bridges though. i wonder if theres another way around that? like a minimum height over the waterway (i.e. bridge roadbed must be 30m above water)?
