How nice it would be to get a couple of friends together for a chat round the fire in peace and quiet! And not have all three of us constantly deluged by IMs ...
Surely it would be nice and simple to have a "Set Semi-Busy" feature that would block all IMs exactly as Busy does (sends the Busy reply), but not block chat?

Not to mention plenty of non-intimate classes or any number of public events or RP areas where you want to pay attention to what's going around you, not to group IMs. I know this has been mentioned before... has anyone actually got a voting proposal up for it?

What makes it worse is this:
Imagine you are involved in a complicated three-way negotiation. Then some nuisance sends a pointless IM to a group you belong to saying "Hi! How is everyone tonight?"
You then get five IMs saying "I'm fine how are you?" and fifteen saying "Ambergris Lemog has left the session" before you can reach for the close session button yourself. By which time you lost track of what the people standing next to you have just been saying ... aaargh ...

I would weep tears of joy if either of these options were available.
Don't forget the key part of the 'pointless IM' process - the 20 pointless IMs yelling about the original pointless IM.
