For much MUCH more realistic sound capabilities, it would be really nice to be able to adjust the speed at which sounds are played in order to adjust pitch. (It would have the effect of changing the playing length, but that should pose no problems).
This functionality could lead to all sorts of new things in-game such as .... musical instruments! I personally would end up using it most for more realistic vehicle engine sounds, but there are many, many applications this could be used for.

Seconded!
I've thought it would be nice to have something like this, then we could quickly and easily put together some kind of MIDI-esque system, which would be nice.
No more 10-second bursts of random music!

I also was thinking about this not long ago... it could make for some interesting instruments and it would let us compose music tracks not much unlike the "MOD" files of a decade or so ago...

Yes. I have asked for this quite a few times... As a work around, you can be insane like myself and just upload a seperate sample per instrument/note.... (working on a tracker via this method....)
