Is there currently a keyboard-shortcut for enabling/disabling voice? I recently got myself a headset to use, but I'm not going to wear it all the time I'm on SL, so it'd be nice to be able to either disable voice then quickly hit a key (or key combo) when I'm activating my headset, or somehow signal to people that while I've got voice enabled I can't currently speak (and may not hear anything that's said), so they can IM me first and I'll then grab my headset.
I can of course do this with a simple scripted attachment, but it would be nicer I think to have something displayed where the little dot usually appears.

There is an option for this in preferences I think. I would tell you exactly where, but SL won't let me log in. If I remember correctly, you can set what ever key you want.

You're probably thinking of the "push to talk" preference that lets you set a key which you either hold down or tap to enable/disable your own speech, i.e - when you push-to-talk you do just that, rather than sending every sound your input device can detect. This doesn't however give any indication to other people that you're trying to talk, or are able to listen, the only feedback to them is a little volume icon above your head showing that you're making some noise.
For this reason it'd be nice to have an "I can listen" feature so people know when you're available for them to speak to, e.g - you've put on and switch-on your headset.

A little white ball shows above your head if you are able to listen, but this is only activated by you having voice enabled in preferences and isn't very obvious to others. There could be a better solution.

I find it's pretty easy to notice without too much effort... if someone doesn't respond to a hello, look for the white ball. Also, to the left of the 'talk' button on the UI, is a little button with what looks like an antenna emitting a signal. If you click that, you get a new small window that lists all people who can hear you, and if you click a name you can change their individual volume/mute them.

Both of these things don't take into account people are using voice, but aren't able to listen (aren't wearing a headset, or don't have it turned on). They are controlled purely by whether or not you have voice enabled or disabled. I've posted a JIRA for this small feature here: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-12362
