Texture/Note Discard Only

I think, until we actually get some sort of UI control, having the ability to make textures/pictures/notecards discard only would be useful.

i.e. I'm working on a card game. I'd like to be able to script an object to give someone a card texture. It would pop up on their screen so that they could see it, but noone else would be able to see the card.

This is possible now, except that the person has the option to either Keep or Discard the texture.

I don't want the person keeping the texture for a couple of reasons. One, I'm working hard on the game design and don't want to pass it along, and two, it would get ridiculous for the person filling up their inventory.

So yeah, If we could do some sort of inventory function parameter that sets something to Discard only, that would be great.

llPopupAdvertising(key id, string item)

But seriously, I think it's a good idea.

Hmm I wouldn't mind seeing this, but what other uses would it be good for? I mean, globaly, besides just for card playing, what other uses could Discard Only be good for?

I can't think of any myself, and while it sounds like a great idea it usualy takes an idea to be globaly usefull to everyone to be implemented. Not saying it *wouldn't* be usefull, just that I can't think of any right now.

I could see it being globally useful for most any type of multi-player game, not just card games. There are lots of types of games where you want one person to know something that the others don't.

Also, outside of game applications, it would allow people to provide more detailed sample shots of something they were selling, or perhaps let someone see a larger version of a texture before they decide to purchase it. These types of applications would require you be able to show someone something without actually giving it to them.

And finally, I'd love it basic instructions for things and whatnot were scripted to be Discard only for courtesy purposes. I often times end up with useless instruction note cards for, say, a one time event because I accidently hit Keep rather than Discard.

I've been asking for this for a while. It'd be really useful for a couple games I've been working on.

I'd love this too! Especially the idea of handing someone a graphical image to look at but not keep. Card games are the most obvious use of it - or any game where you need to give just one person a bit of info. Don't forget the other one we've all been asking for too.
