Some things I have been thinking about as a SL designer.
Texture bumpmapping, I would love to add a channel to my TGA files with a bumpmapping layer. This could make the avatars look less flat, especially with formal clothing jackets. I really hate the way my jackets stick to the avatar.
Offline avatar editor. This would be something very cool. An editor where you can create your avatar just the way you want, and maybe even edit clothes offline so you won't have to upload your images just to try them. The online preview is pretty cool, and a very fine step in the right direction. The only problem is, that the online preview is not complete. I had to upload my total jacket about 6 times, just to get the alignment right. Which cost me about L$120.

I'm not sure if the texture bump as you're describing here on avatars is possible or not, if it is that would be cool to have.
The offline avatar editor... I doubt we'll see that, while I really would'nt have much use for it, I wouldn't mind it being around either. I think if they added something to the preview window where you could see upper and lower torso at the same time and have one be a texture from your current inventory (or even another image from your comp) would be good enough and more likely to happen.
