Closing Group Chat sessions

This is probably one of my biggest gripes in SL.

I'm in a group, and that's ok because I want the group notices. Someone opens a group chat, I get the 'ding ding' of incoming IM, and maybe I'm busy and so I close it.

So far, so good. But... the group chat continues and each time I close it, if someone else joins in the chat, 'ding ding', it's there again. And again. And again.

Surely its not too much to ask that if someone "leaves the session", then while the session is still going on, the person who leaves doesn't get IM'd again? It's annoying especially considering how loud that ding-ding is. Did I say annoying? No, I meant it drives me up the wall!

Tid, are you sure you're closing the individual group's IM window, and not the entire IM window? When you have a group's IM window open, notice that there are two little x's in the corner. Click on the INNER one, and the group IM window will shut and stay shut. The IM window will stay open - either empty or on the next group you have open. Oh, if the group is VERY active maybe two more IMs will leak thru that were already enqueued, but it works. The group will stay closed until you either start up the session again yourself, or you relog.

If you just close the entire IM window, you still get all the group messages, as you describe.

Cheers!

Hi Nika - no I'm talking about closing just the Group window. With some groups this seems to work ok, but with others (Blackhearts Café, Irie Vibes, to name two), if you close the group window, the next incoming IM message from someone else opens it again. This is what is infuriating - if I've left the session by closing the group window (but leaving the Communicate window open for other IMs etc), then it should stay closed.

Maybe I should report this as a bug instead?

If your are busy and use the busy status feature, you will no longer receive the group IM's. You can even send an automated busy reply to normal IM's.

That the group messages are opening after closing is a bug, if you search for "group IM" on Jira, you can find the reports. For example:

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1421
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-692
...

Vote for it :) very annoying indeed.

Meni.

Hi Meni - I realise I didn't make myself clear, what I meant was being 'busy' with one-to-one IM chats and having no time for group chats.

You are quite right, it is a bug, and I will have a look at the JIRA reports. Cheers!

I have been busy building and if I am in group that chat comes up when I haven't chatted with anyone for hours.
I didn't know it was bug I just thought it was possibly annoying feature.

I have to agree with the OP on this one. This has been a problem for a while now. You leave a group session, then if someone replies, it automatically opens it back for you...
