My suggestions:
Provide the service you offer (golden rule in perpetuating a successful business).
Make sure things work before you release them.
Make the SL client actually delete it's cache when we log out(like it says it does), so people who don't know that it doesn't work wont have 1GB of crap sitting there like I did.
If you can't cope with the increases in users, then restrict sign-ups.
If your servers can't cope with people crossing sims, then unlink them all and make a load of islands which we can only teleport between, get rid of the concept of vehicals, animals and avatars and just turn it into a pretty chat room site (being facetious).
Make a tutorial for new users which actually works (I did the damn hula so many times that, if my sister hadn't told me that the tutorial wasn't obligatory, I would either still be trying once a week in vain or given up altogether).
Keep the different sim versions together, rather than having them so fragmented (or does every sim have a different version? It seems that way).

From: Yevad Doobie Keep the different sim versions together, rather than having them so fragmented (or does every sim have a different version? It seems that way). Way back before you where rezzed there was something called upgrade wednessdays, LL used to take the whole grid offline for 6 hours if all went right or upto 12 hours incase a showstopperbug was found and we lived with broken functions for days as the databases struggled to match the changed version. offcourse both residents and LL hated that situation so they came up with roling restarts where the update was done with the grid still open, at first it was done like a wave roling from north to south and people literly jumped the wave causing masive delays in assets as all the teleports take a lot of strain. This still took a long time and reverting was a pain and if the change was to big a roling restart was not posible so the next step was HET grid, in essence the communication between sims was fixed so different version could run side by side, also the way roling restarts where done changed, it was no longer a wave across the map but rather a wave across the racks making it look random but a lot faster, it safed a lot of teleporting because sims stayed down shorter too and the code in memory was only out of sync with the code on the hardrives for a short time. The latest step is the 3 stage roling restart where they first upgrade one rack, test it for a day so they only have to revert one rack if it goes wrong then upgrade half, do another day of testing and finaly restart the rest. This methode already has proven itself a few times with critical bugs caught in a few hours after the first rack deploy. HET grid is not only usefull for staged roling restarts but also for public beta testing of new sim version like what was done with HAVOC 4, during that period you could have upto 3 different versions during a roling restart, the old version, the new verison and the HAVOC 4 version.

Get ride of ban lines, or at least get them off the mainland.

Banlines
06-28-2008 15:44
From: TundraFire Nightfire Get ride of ban lines, or at least get them off the mainland. Not only would making the ban lines visable at distances over 2mm be useful, it would also be much better if our vehicals weren't sent back to lost-and-found each time we run into one...this really really sucks...nothing worse than setting a location 2 drive to, driving for 30mins, getting 100m away and having your vehical taken away because you tried to cross an invisible barrier. Oh, and I've heard that they have been reducing the bandwith and are squeezing 6 sims on a server now...no wonder it is getting so bad. I'm amazed that the people who pay for land and such haven't formed an action group and protested! I certainly would be if I was paying their extortionate prices for a continually reduced service...
