As the world grows and changes daily I'l thinking there really needs to be landmarks that have some sort of intelligence. I have so many landmarks I have to imagine many are no longer there. I dont want to delete them since they may still be there and the only way to know is fly around and look. That is sort of feasible now but in a couple of months I bet it wont be. I suggest having a global delete / rename function. If I create a landmark and I delete it, it gets deleted from everyones inventory that I gave it to (or otherwise aquired it). If I rename it, it gets renamed across the board. The only one who should effect change is the creator. If a creator makes a landmark and leaves the game, the landmark should be auto deleted when the land goes public. I'm sure this is not as easy as it may sound but PLEASE?

I like this idea, and I don't like this idea. I'm not sure whether I like it more than I dislike it, or vice versa.
I rename landmarks that people give me all the time. Sometimes it's to add more info to the name of the LM, and sometimes it's to force it into a certain position in my list of LM's. Now, under your proposal, if you give me a LM to your store, then any time *you* rename your LM in *your* inventory, the LM in *my* inventory gets renamed as well, and now I can no longer find it at a moment's notice, because it's no longer named what I had renamed it... there is also, I think, a potential for griefing here (of course, where *isn't* there a potential?). Scenario: BillyBob Jones creates a LM somewhere, hands it out to everybody he sees for some undefined amount of time. Then BillyBob has a run-in with LittleSuzy over something or other. BillyBob then renames his LM "LittleSuzy gives cyber BJ's here at 8 PST!!!" Ok, that's silly. It's childish. It so wouldn't happen in SL... or would it?
As far as auto-deletion of landmarks for properties which have reverted to public because the owner has left the game... oh, no... I don't like this at all, and here's why. Maybe that person has posted to the forums that they're leaving, or has said something in game. Maybe that parcel of land that the LM is tied to is quite nice, and maybe I'd like to snatch it up when it's available again. If the LM gets deleted from my inventory, I then have to rely on my swiss cheese memory to guide me to the proper sim and co-ord's before anyone else beats me to it.
I agree with you tho, that it would be nice to have a better way to manage our LM's. I've just been using the old "have I been there in the last [x] days/weeks/months?" Mainly tho I rely on my renaming scheme. Give 'em a name that puts them at the top of my LM list, so I can find the ones I want to find quickly, easily.
Back to you, Mis =)

The only thing I think they should add, is the ability that if you move your place and create a new landmark, it either forwards or notifies each person who has the original landmark of the change. This would be entirely setup by the user of course.

Didnt think of the #!, good point. If someone changes the whole look feel and use of their property and renames it though its helpful to know... so then rather than auto change it, a notification? Problem with that is people who change constantly.. you'd get tons of notifications... hmmm..

Ok, so hmmm.. What about a "mailing list" script/object -- not really *mail* but IM. Property owner puts this object somewhere on the property. People who want to know when the property changes would add themselves to a list maintained by the script. When the owner wants to notify folks, s/he says the magic words, and the object then: - sends an IM to each of the people on its list, and
- deletes its list
This way, you're only going to get *one* notification that MJ's Store has been reworked. If you want to get future notifications, you'd need to re-add yourself to the list. Doesn't really address most of your original suggestions, but it might help with one tiny part =) Thoughts?

I like this idea. Landmarks need to contain more information than they do and they definitely need to have a way for changes the creator of the landmark makes to it to propogate to everyone who has it.
I don't think the potential for griefing is a big deal, because everyone who has the landmark would have proof of the abuse and that person would be banned in a heartbeat.
I've drastically altered the land and structure for my place since I started handing out landmarks. If you have one of my old ones you'll teleport into an odd place (it used to be outside, but not anymore). I've also built a bar that has become the main focus of my property, rather than the gallery upstairs. It would be cool if I could rename my landmarks.
It would be nice if when the landmark creator submits a change that everyone holding it would get an IM or popup saying something like "landmark "blah blah" has been updated. Would you like to open it now?"
As far as it screwing up your ability to organize your landmarks that could be solved by having Landmarks have a comment field where anyone who has the landmark can put a note, then have landmarks be searchable. There'd be no need to rename them then.

There'd be no need to rename them then. I want a search function, yes. I don't agree that there'd be no need to rename LMs if/once a search function was in place. There are some LMs that I want *at the top of the list so I don't have to scroll down*. That's two clicks of the map landmark menu: click to open it, click to select one of those LMs which are at the top of the list (and only at the top of the list because I renamed them to put them there). Using a search function instead: Click Find button, type in search phrase, click search, doubleclick on found LM -- that's 3 clicks (counting the doubleclick as just one), plus whatever amount of typing needed to be done for the search phrase. More work, more time taken. I would absolutely use the search function - just not for those LMs that I keep up top =) #!

#! I got ya Then how about this?... make landmarks have a user defined list order instead of alphabetical so you can move them to the top if you want. That way list order wouldn't be dependant on the name of the LM so having them updatable (and commentable) wouldn't impact your ability to organize them.
