Body hair that grows would greatly enhance the realism of our avatars, dramatically increasing the degree with which we identify with our avatars, thus producing a more thoroughly immersive experience.

This would also stimulate new commerce in the production and supply of shaving tools and accouterments.

;)

Hmm, I don't know how my AV would feel about ingrown hairs at the bikini line.

Machines would have rust, and reptiles could have some kind of parasites or mites or something, or maybe reptiles would have to shed their skin every so often and be all light colored and softskinned for a while afterward.

And hairless demons, or solid gold robots?

Gold neither corrodes not rusts.

Robots could have little resistors, capacitors, inductance coils, and other circuitry paraphernalia sprout from their surfaces. Or circuit traces could gradually appear on them, removable by some sort of polishing process, giving rise to a new euphemism, "polishing my robot".

OMG SuezanneC,
While I admire your creativity, (as you certainly must be creative to come up with so many off the wall proposals), I have to say I find this one particularly absurd. :P

One should be ever vigilant for the possibility that a poster might be making a joke. The presence of a ;) at the end of a post is a good indication of the need to put the sillyness detectors into high gain mode if the post itself didn't set them off.

I'm going to have to start paying attention to the OP's name when I read on of these off the wall suggestions.

If you can find a way for the feature to know what "species" an avatar is, then by all means.
(By "species" I mean to include creatures (that actually have species) as well as things that don't fall into the "living, dead, or plant" kingdoms).

Allowing the avatar to have attributes that determine how the system treats the avatar would be good.

I believe Argent has talked about how useful it would be for avatars to have attribute fields that would hold attribute names and values.

Shavebots!
(I don't know what a shavebot would be exactly, but every discussion about SL needs to have some of the words used in the discussion repeated with the letters "bot" added to them, sometimes with an exclamation mark added. It's in the TOS.)

Point taken. At least I didn't take counter-point and extol the virtues of being hairless.

In which case, lets try to get that running first. ;)
