REALTIME RADIOSITY FOR PHOTOREALISTIC GRAPHICS UP TO 100MHZ IN SPEED ON MAINSTREAM COMPUTERS!!! I would like to present to all the Community of Second Life and it's developers the opportunity to see a breakthrough in computer graphics that will revolutionize the gaming industry! Here is a link to the site: http://www.geomerics.com/index.php?page=lightingPlease take time to look at this demo. It will show you a demo for an upcoming graphical engine that will be considered the Holy Grail of computer game Graphics. Programmers and Artists alike will have a more streamlined workflow due to less of a need to produce "Photorealistic Graphics" They, now, will have the opportunity to allocate their resources to other facets of Game/Simulation Creation. I"m sure SL will benefit greatly to this added level of realism to their ever-evolving virtual world and all of this player-created contents.

Wow! You wouldn't happen to work for Geomerics marketing by any chance? Did you know: Geomerics real-time lighting technology incorporates all of these effects in an 'infinite bounce' setting. Lights can be moved dynamically, so characters exploring a scene with a torch, for example, can now experience the scene being lit as it would be in the real world. Furthermore, artists can create lights dynamically to ensure that scenes are lit the way they intended, in a similar manner to movie sets. How cool is that?

Infinite bounces, etc. Okay, yes, the videos and such look cool, but I really see this having no practical use for something like Second Life. Since you're likely an employee of Geometrics, go ask one of your programming staff if their radiosity/GI/ambient occulsion calculator (or whatever they use) can handle around 100,000 dynamicly-generated polygons per frame. If they answer "yes" (and do not add the qualification of "...on a 64-processor system with 36G of RAM" then, hey, send some brochures to Linden Lab!

i am rarely impressed b y so called "realtime engine" when all ythe material i have to judge it are screenshots and videos, i can do nicer in 3dsmax, so prove me it's realtime?

As far as I know, SL deliberately doesn't have realistic lighting, because if it did you could find your entire property shrouded in darkness because your next door neighbour built a huge monolith to annoy you.

I'm sure Runitai would love to implement realistic lighting. I'm actually more interested in the idea of geometric algebra. That could make some cool new prims.

I second that, new prims would contribute much more to the SL community than dynamic lighting, btw...I hear their implementing havok soon....LMAO.

BTW, local lighting already exists in SL!
Just go to "preferences" and turn local lighting on! It's in the "Graphics Detail" tab, under Lighting Detail, and select "Nearby local lights."

It all looks really super. But with membership around 3 million, and online community at any given time reaching 30,000+, I don't see how this programing would be any better than the Linden Lab's current versions. And, would it still be possible to build prim objects with this? There still are a lot of questions that would have to be proven before anything like this is possible. Possibly if everyone put the complete program on their home computers, like in an online, game, it might be possible. Still would everyone have to dump current computers and buy a $5,000+ super computer?
Just my thoughts
