Or are the roads bothering anyone else? To me, they feel too big, too dense, and too green. Neutral and less dense would be much more conducive to the themed areas we've been discussing. I can't envision something like a medieval village with one of those roadways sweeping through it. Kinda spoils the mood.

And painful too X.x I've been flung into oblivion too many times by them. They do seem a bit to big to me, and currently make it next to impossible to build anything under them.

Thanks for the feedback. We'll change the design - general feeling has been the same - they are cool but a bit heavy looking.

We'll work something new up and put it out.

Also we can tune the behavior of the scripts relative to movement.

How do folks like the general idea of roads? Idea is that they serve as a nav aid, you can go faster on/over them, and they define thoroughfairs along which people will likely travel, thus making 'rural' better-defined. So you build near roads if you want to meet people, and far away if you don't.

Thoughts?

I don't mind the idea, as long as the road builders ask before they build next to you property. I arrived in game the otherday and found highway over my house, which didn't let me in because of the force they create.
Also if it was easier to get on them and fly over them, its a pain having to take the long way around just because the "faster and conventient" highway is across your path.

I found the highways difficult. I couldn't get around the curve on the highway and I had to align myself real good to even make it down a straightaway. I don't understand their practical use as a high-speed conduit since we've already got the choice of walking (slow), flying (quick) and teleportation (instantaneous yet costly.) If you're in a rush, teleport. If you don't wanna walk, fly.

I like the idea of thoroughfares for exploration as well as travel, mapping out popular routes to places and whatnot, but I don't think the booster-pad highways (I thought I was Sonic the Hedgehog for a moment!) are the way to go.

Philip maybe we could use a variation of my launch pads invarious locations intsead? It is just time consuming to set each one up. and I crash alot during the setting up, as I am launched off the grid and fly in space.

Maybe this is good cause for a feature suggestion. When a client loses connection with the server and the av seems to be flying in a blackhole, maybe there can be an internal reset in the client that negotiates a safe defualt return to the grid. This would be much better then restarting the client, or in some cases likemine, much better then windows crashing then being forced to hard reset my system.

As a addition to this - Would it be possible to add a TeleToLandmark call to SLS? - with this you could even make "telepads" that work alot like my Gate but were aimable.
Have a script that senses a avatar that walks onto the pad - have the pad say its list of landmarks - you speak where you want to go and poof off you go. I dont think these should be everywhere - flying around is a big part of the game and ity gets you meeting new people and seeing new stuff. But a limited number on the long range popular destinations would be great. Also the ability for us to link our houses / land toghther in a tele network would be great :)
