What about a "Nudge" feature for IMs?

Currently when you IM another user a "ping" sounds and the channel opens for that user. However if the channel is already open the only way to know if there is a new IM in that channel is through the tab flashing. If you are working on something this might take a while to notice. If it were possible for the sender to activate the "ping" in open channels that user could let the receiver know there was a new message. What do you think? Would it be useful for you?

Whether it would be useful or not, if it is implemented, I HOPE it don't *shake* and making *very* loud noise as they are in MSN. I hated it that I have to disabled that functionality altogether.

If you are working on something else, you may not want people screming "look at me! look at me!" whenever you are away for more than 30 seconds.
If the discussion is important enough, you'd probably be keeping an eye open anyway.

HELL NO!!! Whatever genius put that in MSN Messenger so my boss can make stuff jump and jiggle on my screen like a 5 year old whining "look at me! look at me!" needs to be kicked, hard! I HATE that feature. It's why I permanently quit using MSN. I don't care if I can turn it off, I kept seeing the "so and so sent you a nudge" message even though I have told them I will flat-out log off if they do that.
[Edit] Oh. You just mean with a ping? I still don't like it, but I don't hate it as much as that stupid MSN feature with the same name.

I think it would be useful, but there also needs to be a way to disable it. It can be helpful or annoying depending on the circumstances.

One of the reasons I use Trillian.... And I can keep in contact with my friends on ICQ, Yahoo and AOL as well. Morwen.
