As SL grows, so does the number of inconsiderate people who continually abuse group IMs to advertise other services completely separate and irrelevant to the group, ask stupid questions, request teleports, or other nonsense inappropriate for group chat. I hate to leave groups that give product/event updates because of these people. And it's getting more cumbersome for the group owners to filter out and discipline people.
How hard would it be to enable an option to receive NOTICES ONLY? Just to get the info from the officers/owners, not the requests for TPs, ads for land sales or other clubs, and the other abuses of group communication. We shouldn't have to give up the group entirely to get rid of the spam.

I completely agree, a notice of an event is sent and then it moves into an open discussion on the group channel. the only current way to stiop this is for you to leave the group or a group officer to eject this abusers from the group. The latter doesn't work if the group has open enrollment as this avatar can just search and join again!
This is a feature that many of us have been asking for and Linden Labs will say they are "looking into added this feature".
On a side note, They could also fix the option box in group info for receiving group notices. Everytime I log in I have like twenty, and this is a slow day, group notices waiting. Unchecking the receive group notices box in the group's main info page doesn't stopo these message from appearing. Also, can't these messages be sent only to avatars that want them and ARE CURRENTLY ONLINE? Or would this be a big burden on the all ready overtaxed asset servers?

I'm surprised that we can stop group notices but can't disable group IMs without using the busy feature. I've asked for this feature before. Sometimes certain Second Life products require you to be part of a certain group to receive updates for the product. I had to leave one group because it had like 400 people in it, they expected no one to speak, new people were always asking questions there and were being told to use a specific other group's IM, and because of all of the members in it; random advertisements were posted in it while spamming me to death. Please Linden Labs, give us an on/off feature for group IMs.
P.S. Oh, I didn't notice that the group notices option was broken.
