I noticed this problem when I first started playing SL, and I wanted to wait until I heard someone else mention it before I made a suggestion to improve this issue.
The camera in SL moves precisely with whatever you're focused on, in all three axises. This is fine for most things, but for avatars, especially your own, it seems very "rough" or "choppy" while your avatar is walking or running around, compared to nearly all other 3d environments and games.
It seems like the solution to this problem is to only follow the avatar on the front-back local axis, and lock movement on the left-right and up-down local axises (unless explicitly moved with Alt/CtrlAlt zoom/rotation).
Maybe something like this can be done to improve the camera movement, and to make the application look a little more polished off.
I got used to it after a few weeks, but I remember it was one of the first things I saw when I got in world that gave me a negative impression of the quality of the software.
Has anyone else noticed this as a problem worthwile looking into? Does anyone else remember having a reaction to the camera choppyness while walking when they first started playing in SL?

From: someone Has anyone else noticed this as a problem worthwile looking into? Does anyone else remember having a reaction to the camera choppyness while walking when they first started playing in SL? Yes and Yes. It still sometimes bugs me, but I've become mostly used to it as you have. When I first came here though, I thought it was a little awkward with the camera moving so in tune to my avatar. Now I'm kinda used to it and *kinda* like it, I don't love it, but I don't hate it either. Having the option to toggle it so you can either have your camera move exactly with your avatar or just move on the vectors its following would be nice. I haven't tried this, but I plan to, but does setting the Camera Springyness help this any? I thought of this, but can't log in to try it out. I'll edit this once I do.

I think they should alter the smoothing they use on the camera system. Flying pretty quick with a jetpack, with the springiness turned down to 1, there's quite a lot of jerkiness.
