If you track a place on the map, simply being within a couple metres of the tracking pillar will cause it to turn off. This is good.
What would be BETTER would be if similar functionality existed for tracking users. I don't think that it should be set so that you stop tracking someone when in close proximity -- that's contrary to much of the POINT of tracking someone. I WOULD like an easier way than going into the map menu and clicking "clear" to stop tracking though.
Say, if we could click on the tracking bar itself and just turn off tracking that way, either just by left-clicking once or by right-clicking and getting a pie menu.
I think even a "track on map"/"un-track on map" entry on the pie menu when clicking on someone else directly would do just fine. You wouldn't have to mess around with adding pie menu functionality to the tracker pillar just to do that.
