There is nothing that compares to the luxury of having your own sim, far from the main land. A quiet, lag free place to enjoy a glass of Kool Ade with a friend. Do we all need 65,536m to enjoy that? Not really...

What about taking a PC, and making it run four quater sims. Chop the monthly fees into quaters, from $200 to $50. Make the sims appear quite a separate matter in game, but just route them to the same PC.

This would allow us to hold down a public house in the game, but have that oh-so sought after place of tranquility and quiet when we want it.

Please, please, please, please!!!

Hmm, that's an interesting idea.

We couldn't know to what extent the system would have to be changed for this to happen, however it doesn't seem too complicated to use some sort of sim alias that points to coordinates on the map which are far apart.

I think the problem would be however that four places which are far apart on the map, are physically touching. so you could say, walk from Alaska right into Australia.

In other words, making it so that one sees ocean instead of the next quarter sim may be difficult. But it may be VERY much worth the effort!

And then again, depending on their design this might be very easy. For instance if Sims are not actually "physically" connected at all, but just linked on four sides to coresponding sims/servers then they already have it made. They might just consider smaller sims.

I could see this raising the demand for virtual real estate, and one day in the future we could be saying "I remember when you could visit every place in Second Life. Now you couldn't see everything in a million years."

Of course by then it will have replaced the World Wide Web and I will be president of Linden Research. :-)

Oh wait, that's the alternate future where I have money and people care about what I think. *sigh*

1 - Ban everyone from your land
2 - Put up invisible walls
3 - Stay 20 meters away from your (now invisible) neighbors and you wont hear each other either

Lol no, banning everyone and having a 'you can't come here' area isn't what I'd want to do...

Having a peaceful retreat out to sea somewhere where people can visit me is what I would like. But because people have lives in SL, I wouldn't get a constant stream of visitors, so for the most part it'd be a place of tranquility to go and relax :)

I think I get what you mean. But in it's literal form...that would be like programming a paint application and having each function be a seperate application. Too many threads for one processor and the expensive alternate is 4 times the number of servers... not possible without 4 times the monthly subcription rate.

What you really want is maybe a set of sims that are away from the mainland that are spaced far from each other. They would have islands in the four corners for sale. That would put you at a little more than $50, but if you wanted to pay less you would upset the teir system.

Yeah if you liked your other three people, I guess that'd be pretty sweet...

So how about it Lindens? Four island clusters up for auction? :)

I picture a section of ocean with slightly less than 1/4 size sims divided by strips of ocean that, when viewed from the land, are limitless with no travel across them. If the system can support an edge-of-sim effect INSIDE a sim, that would make this possible. Cool iea. it would make the one thing not really possible in SL afordable: privacy.

why not just play an offline game when you want complete solitude and then log onto SL when you wouldn't mind visitors?

Because you don't want to be 'totally' alone :)

You might want to just be alone with one person, like someone from the opposite sex, or maybe with a group of close friends :)

Maybe you'd like a little space that is 'separate' for business meetings or something.

I think there are many reasons you might want a separate area such as a quater sim, but wouldn't want to be offline.
