This is simply a reminder that the men and women of SL are patiently awaiting easier ways to make dresses and trenchcoats that work correctly and can be made through the clothing option ;) I know this one might take a bit of work, just wondering what the priority of it is on your to-do list might be :D

Yes! PLEASE! My kimono just isn't the same with a cone my legs clip through and a little half-sphere to hide my bum. ^_^

I think the technical issues are two-fold: One, every avatar customization right now just pushes polys around; they always still exist. The proper way to implement this requires you actively add/subtract them from a mesh (so you trenchcoat people can leave it open, and so everyone can adjust the height.) Of course, making a mesh that resembles a hollow cone with a seam, and pulling that seam open/shortening the entire height is doable, but your texture is going to get stretched/squashed right along with it. Then again... I can work with that. Alpha channels could work, but they'd be awkward since the dress has thickness.

Secondly, animating these things is a pain in the arse. I've seen far too many modellers choke in frustration over dresses, trenchcoats, and capes. In SL, I think a couple sections of the dress would be tethered to appropriate points on the legs, and would smooth-deform the entire dress to keep each section a certain distance from the legs. It's fairly complicated and would be a nightmare to transmit over a server... could we have this handled entirely client-side?

It's doable, but it's also an investment of time and effort.

I think the problem is that the cloths won't be moving... like when the wind blows

Well Nexus, I don't want 10 fps gaming, so I'm gonna hold off on the "asking for wind affected clothing" :D
