As I understand streaming audio, we're only allowed to play streaming audio on a parcel (not from an object) because the stream goes directly from a URL to clients, bypasssing SL servers and not costing any Linden bandwidth.

With HUD attachments, I understand that audio from a HUD attachment plays locally, directly to the client. So, can we have a script command to play streaming audio on a HUD attachment?

It would let us take an audio stream with us. We could wear HUDphones.

This is funny, paulie... particularly because I thought this is what SL could do when I first joined. I read a story about someone who made a "jacket with speakers" (if anyone knows what I'm referring to, please point it out!) and who went around sharing his music with others. The main difference here, of course, is that a HUD is only seen on the clientside.

I could see this being useful for car stereo systems inworld.

I like this Idea... have a HUD Radio insted of haveing to rely on a land parcle to stream music.
I would no longer have to open winamp to listen to my radio staton when away from my home.

Heh, eeevery time I look for this thread it takes me forever to re-find it. Look here:

Now, I may be way off here, but if you can initiate a stream directly to the client like this for video and have the video persist as them move from parcel to parcel, I would think (hope?) that the same thing could be done for streaming audio? I'm guessing I'm misunderstanding something here, because if this IS possible I'm really surprised I haven't seen it yet...

Sorry that script doesnt work parcle to parcle its a stay in 1 spot thing.

But yea thats the kinda thing we want be able to move plot to plot cloant side audio and possably Video feed... Only probs I would see is Sim crossings... Im not pushing for Video on HUD thou... some things are best left at home

Being able to control a video or audio stream is one of the things that makes land ownership of value.

Making it possible for people to wear an attachment and listen to music of their choice thereby means you could have a club or a dance party without having to pay for the privilege. It would be nice, but it doesn't seem likely to me.

I think this is a fantastic idea and I hope that someone figures out how to do this soon! This certainly would reduce load on my machine as I wouldn't have to run Winamp or another audio player while I am in game. And it if allowed me to change it to the parcel stream so I can share in the fun or to another stream of my choosing, all to the good!

....BWHAHAA!! This yes is one of the beat things that you can do with the new HUD....BUT your missing how some can also use this to be malicious. As some have noticed, there are some segments in the Welecome area that for some reason have streaming video. Now think boys and girls, if i wanted to piss off everyone at the WA, how could i use this to spam? Now let's just say your just standing there and wear something that allows you to bypass the video loop issue. Or, turn your Av into a radio head, and watch video from your tv head! As we delve into future endeavors, i see no reason why some people might not use this feature to act as spam for commercials or some stupid porn site or something of mention that might annoy the society. Jus be careful and keep tweaking guys, there's alot to learn in SL
