Due to the overwhelming number of permission 'glitches' in place in SL, and combining the fact that I think this is reasonable anyhow, I propose the following:
Creator should always have implicit copy/modify rights to any object, texture, script, etc.
If you create it, it's yours. You shouldn't lose copy/modify rights to it just because of strange circumstances.
The caveat: any script running in an object that is not owned by the creator as well should automatically go "not running" until the owner specifies otherwise.

Can you expand on this "not running" thing ?
I agree that the creator should always have copy and mod rights to any object they create no matter what permissions were set originally.
I would also suggest that a "give creator modify permission" option be added. So that the creator could fix any bugs after the release. Allow "patching" as it were. Also possibly that the creator could turn on modify and copy rights to all copies of the object trhough redundant warning dialog to avoid accidental clicking. Once allowed this could not be turned off for copies in circulation but could be disallowed for all new copies made from an original.
I hope this wasn't too confusing.

I agree a creator should have copy and mod permissions. I dont think they should be able to "take" the item though. Too much room to grief there.

I don't think the creator should have any rights to an object owned by someone else even if they made it.. unless its sold/given back to them.
There are problems though where an object with no copy and mod rights given to someone else and then back to the owner. That object is basicly locked because no one can change it ever again. This needs to be fixed but once an object is given away its not yours to mess with.
