This would open up so many doors, but I don't think it would be a security risk: give all text view pop-up windows (inventory, chat, yada yada) a "copy URL" button. Press button, open browser, paste URL: get a Java presented view of that bit of your SL world. That gives us the floating-window, dual-monitor mode we have been begging for, in an instant: it allows things like the oft-proposed "offline messenger" to live in a web page or on an iPhone (for example); it means we could eventually manipulate the inventory and add things to and from slexchange and friends, without running the main client; and it gets round the "all displays are OpenGL" roadblock in using multi-monitors.
Come on guys, crack this one open. I actually want SL on a 1000 lumen projector, six feet high but at nice low res, and the "action panels" as web pages on a 19 inch monitor beside that... now that would be cool; ultimately I want to have this up as a "virtual door" in a club, with webcams and streaming media panels so that SL avs can "dance with" real people, and not being able to have separated access to the sim vs all the controls, is a major stumbling block. You know that lower res windows to the sim itself are a win-win proposition - g'waaaaaannnn!

I would also like to see this implemented since S.L. never opens my web browser and copying the url is not an option. Please please please implement this.

URL thing kind of confuses me... if its at all related... whenever someone types a link in SL, when you click on it, doesn't it open up a new browser window ? it does for me. but..
you want a nice huge screen SL with a niice low res?
low res?
low resolution sucks..... don't you mean high res?

You run firefox? Yes that is the reason. Trust me buddy, they make it out to sound like a great browser, and I suppose it is a good browser in that it doesn't get as much spam... but after that it sucks. Not all the web colors work with firefox, and apparently it will not open for SL. Switch to Internet Explorer, and problems solved. But i recommend not using the new internet explorer version, for I personally think it sucks. I tries to look high tech and cool looking, but in the process it loses a lot of the user-friendly and accessible features we have come to know and love. It still has a back/forward button set though. Still, get like... IE... version... (current -1) not sure what current is i BELIEVE it is 7, so in that case get 6.

Site a source? Pfffft english majors.... I don't need to site a source, I used to have a myspace that had a unique look to it. Internet explorer could handle it, and it showed everything. Everyone who used firefox told me they couldn't see **** on my myspace at the time.

Ah.... Internet Exploder Only functions.... Of course. Yes, that's right, there are "HTML" tags that only IE knows what to do with them because Microsoft can't be botherd to follow standards. Try making that MySpace page again and running it through that validator. I garuntee you that errors will be popping out of everything. Random MySpace page returned over 400 errors.

There wouldn't be much point if it wasn't perfect, now would it?

If only IE can interpret some URL's.. say for example the HippieATM's.. how come when I use IE as my default browser I can't open them either? I can't open the links that are on the sign in screen either. It's driving me a bit nuts!
Please help.
