Okay this is a five minute thing to setup and won't kill secondlife to setup.
Can we get a "Closed Comments" or even "Blog Comments" Section on the forums...
By this I mean... when you decide to close comments on a blog post add a new topic into the closed comments forum and allow people to continue the discussions on the forum. I would require someone to setup one thread in a forum and then post a link to it on the blog.
I would have been really interested to see whether the comments on your recent blog post about "Keeping SL Safe" continued to contradict what you stated as popular opinion so dramatically, but as comments were closed...

ps... I am somewhat annoyed I missed my chance to chuck my 2 pence worth into that discussion.. and yeah I am against the move... it's just gonna lead to witch hunts.. I am probably going to see my friends list cut in half due to it.. wth happened to your world your imagination.. and last off wouldn't it be better to have said... "we are introducing these new codes of conduct for "public" places... we are also introducing some kinda privacy features along the lines of the discussions in http://forums.secondlife.com/showthread.php?t=152745".... pps yeah thats 2pences worth..

I agree, this latest announcement sets a very dangerous precedent. It's one thing to crack down on things because they are blatantly illegal, but "broadly offensive"? It seems as though they're opening the doors and inviting people to complain about each other! Gorreans could be considered "broadly offensive", or furries, or anyone involved in the SL adult industry. Does this mean that anyone that can get a petition together can oust anyone or anything they like?
I don't like it at all.

I find it odd folks that want to object choose this limited viewabilty forum to present their views in rather than something that can be viewed by people that aren't current users of SL and that can be indexed in Google and it's competitors, such as Second Citizen or SLUniverse, or in comments on news stories, or blogs, or on their own web pages.

*grins* Well, the objection to the blog post was just what made me actually post this as a feature request... This is not the first time that the Blog Comments have been shut off before everyone had their say. Who knows... comment 101 could have suggested something that could solve the entire issue (maybe) but the poster clicked submit 1 second after the comments were closed.
As to posting in other places... I would hope that the lindens would actually read something that got posted in a blog comments closed area of the forums... its what I would consider a good place to get the consensus of the populace as it's available to the populace and actually run by them.
I do also agree that taking the arguments to another place beyond the sl forums is a good idea.. as the current issues show linden labs does seem to pay more attention to external influences rather than the opinions of the residents...
but yeah I didn't intend this post to become an off-topic rant about the current situation.. It was just putting forward a feature that was the first thing I looked for after seeing "Closed Comments".

From: SuezanneC Baskerville I find it odd folks that want to object choose this limited viewabilty forum to present their views in rather than something that can be viewed by people that aren't current users of SL and that can be indexed in Google and it's competitors, such as Second Citizen or SLUniverse, or in comments on news stories, or blogs, or on their own web pages. I think there's a better chance for threads to be seen by their intended target here (i.e. Linden Labs), than on some 3rd party site. Fragmenting and diluting the response across umpteen sites all across the internet would not serve the purpose of driving home to Linden Labs that their current policies are alienating a large portion of their user base.

Feedback is very valuable to living systems and businesses. It may be annoying, even painful; but it is a warning system for viablity. I wish people were succinct, and that feedback is never prematurely cutoff.
