Thread carried over from old forums

hmm, i was wondering if maybe we could get a script, one that asked for your permission of course, that allowed us to take controll of someones camera? What made me think about it was benstein has a submarine, and i thought wouldn't it be cool to have a working periscope, which would be easy to do, if we had some way of controlling the camera . of course this is just the begining, you could script whole moves based just on moving some ones camera... if you can think of any other applications, post em!

We've thought with delight about the possibilities here:

+ 'Ride along' on another AV's view (being John Malkovitch)

+ Freely move camera about roll axis,etc (imagine a rollercoaster ride)

+ See from perspective of a chosen object (bullet time!)

Thoughts welcome. We will probably implement something like this in future releases, so would love to see what folks would/wouldn't like here.

We have a little of this with llSetCameraAtOffset and llSetCameraEye (I think these are the names) but there's no documentation and they don't really seem to work, even in scripts from Linden sources.

Me too.

BTW, isn't this is what llTakeCamera should do? Was this originally part of 1.1 and not implemented?

I would LOVE this for movie making! To be able to lock a viewpoint to an object, then have the object move along a path... Presto! Motion-control camera! 8)

I support this product and/or service, and I am UNANIMOUS in that. :)

I am still seeking a way to lock out the camera controls completely (for card games and whatnot).

(About 1,000 days later, in a feeble attempt to reanimate and reinvigorate this thread)

<BUMP>
And I voted for it to, me and a whole, um, 20-ish other people. Seriously, this is something that we need. Machinima, games, and many other uses for this. Sure we can make a sit-script and change the camera's position, but not dynamically... To be able to actually take control of the camera(with permission, of course) is something that would make me very happy....

Or a pony. Or pie. Or perhaps a nice piece of pony-rhubarb pie... :P
