Err... have you ever considered the possibility that the Lindens want to make more sims get more traffic than others by strategic positioning? Just some food for thought...

The noob has a point. I have always hated that I have to go around corners all the time. Makes the world feel very unrealistic. I wish we could fly offworld into a neverending ocean instead of hitting invisible walls and having to go around invisible corners. Besides, the world was pretty much rectangular when I joined

I prefer the concave world.
And yes, it would be very nice if we could fly over the "ocean."

I bet they could make it so the entire 'ocean' was just one extra simulator. Nothing would be out there except water and the occasional avatar, I doubt it would need much computer power at all.

on the contrary... it would need a ton! Between avatars and attatchments...

First off it encompasses a very large amount of space, with potentially a lot more AVs traveling through it. Also it is likely to be very low in graphics card / client lag. Which means it could turn into a place to try and hold meetings - which could slow down or block out everyone else in the entire 'void' sim. Not to mention you would be able to swim to prelude and disturb the newbies or other forbidden sims.

You'd want to limit its size... 1KM of border area around the furthest N/S/E/W corners of the world. You could use multiple simulators if things became problematic. The biggest problem would probably be modifying the simulator & client code to support it.

Wow, everybody did miss Darwin's point lol.
Tan is an "expensive sim" because more traffic goes through there, thus some extra economic aspects are placed into our world so that Linden Labs can see what happens and that if the whole idea of an expensive sim was worth it or not. If it turns out that it is pointless (especially with our new teleporting system) then I'm sure sim-clipping or ocean-flying wil be implemented, but we have yet to know the affects of expensive sims.

Great Dave now I feel like a lab rat in a maze Who was it that once said "We are not the players. The Lindens are the players. We are the game." ? Anyway the whole idea about Tan didnt work out in the least bit. Tan is the sim you fly over and ignore. No one ever stops there to pay attention to anything, except the occasional wandering noob who wants someone to talk to. If anything the expensive areas should be places like immaculate, which are placed purposefully out of the way to allow for people who want to be left alone. Having the land be more expensive in such places would further that aspect.

I don't mind the current shape of the world much, but I think we need more than just 1 sim then Tan connecting the north and south continents. I live in Perry. The other day I was in Teal rather late at night. Tan had crashed, so I couldn't use that route to get home, but I also had the 'lose an attachment crossing a sim border glitch'. This prevented me from teleporting. So I was stuck where I was, unless I relogged.

I prefer the more complicated world to a boring square world.

Aqua was the only way to get to Brown and Green(by flight/walking/etc), until Mauve was built.
