Ill skip the talk and go straight to the list of what i think would be cool in second life.

1. for a few dollors extra a month, a player can own his own sim, this is compleatly tax free and the player who bought the sim would own the entire sim (unless he let a friend buy a plot or something) Players can still buy land in public sims, but thease will be taxed (this is a good way of getting linden lab some extra dough)

2. a new world! Sure, the sims we have now are great, but how about a new set of sims in another area? Possibly something with a winter theme? A desert theme? A space theme (oh please god please!). I think you get my idea.

3. the ability to upload longer sound files. Atm we are simply working around with, spending 100 dollors for a 100 second sound clip broken up into 10 files. But why not a 100 dollor upload for a 100 second sound clip? a 200 dollor one for a 200 second sound clip ect ect.

I think the best one of the above is the player owned sims, and I feel they could only be accessed to by teleporter ( Anyone who buys a sim will be given a no copy script that they can but inside an object, they click the object, object asks for password, player says password, player is teleported to his sim/ friends sim.)

1. Each sim is a computer which is about 1000 dollars to set up, not including maitence.

2. See 1.

3. Each server only has so much space on it, and prices may need to be a little higher, but still longer clips would be good.

1.
I believe 1 is being explored as a possibility (based on some posts or chats from a looong time ago) - although I would bet not many would be owned singly. To be effective I think a good interface / system for joint ownership needs to be found. I would rather pay $50 a month for a quarter sim than $200 a month for a whole sim kinda deal.

2.
Different texture sets for different areas of the world is a nice idea. Assuming they get the population numbers they want I believe they plan on expanding a lot so its not out of the question I think.

3.
I'm against this, always have been. The sound system is setup to facilitate environmental sounds - sound effects, noises to make the world seem more real. Sure music can be uploaded and made to play but it takes extra work and I think that is good. Don't turn this into 3d napster/kazaa. One possibility I might be able to support would be scaling prices - 20s costs $40 instead of $20, or something. A 2 minute song should cost about 10,000 to upload or something. :D I don't imagine I would find much support for that idea though.

Hummm.... I like the idea of owning our own LL sim. But, as its already been stated, its overly expensive for the average user to pay the maintenance fee that LL does. I would rather like to run my own sim from home. This way, LL can eiather allow teleports into the sim for free, or connection of the sim to the main grid for a monthly fee. I have a large down/upload pipe (1.5meg/768kpbs) that begs for saturation ;) .

Just tossing in my thoughts on a compromise... I dont think buying your own sim with real world currency or even a monthly charge is that feasable... BUT... would it be possible for a group in-game to somehow "adopt" new and upcoming sims? This way they would be able to (as per #2) request specific texture sets... i.e. winter, desert, pavement.... whatever. They could be charged Linden dollars to "adopt" a new sim. I think this sounds like a reasonable way of accomplishing more personalized sims and giving player more control over molding the world.

Sure... NexCorp (Gibson), Americana (Blue), Darkwood (Darkwood).... etc.

These groups "adopt" a sim by dividing the land up amongst other group members and run themes.

For the more technically minded - the problem is actually NOT the asset server (or 'asshat' as you prefer to affectionately call it herein).

I'd be willing to pay fifty, maybe seventy five dollars a month more for say an eighth or quarter of a sim; it might be the best way to go for those who want a lot of privacy or a good deal of say in how a sim looked "fresh from the box". It would also be a great way to go if you had a group wanting a remote island sim, for one example I know to be true. I can't see anyone needing more room than that, but I suppose there will be those who wanted a whole sim to themselves. After paying subscription money like that though, I wouldn't expect to pay any taxes, just maybe being limited to my share of allowable prims.

Actually Roger, Nexcorp and Gibson is exactly who I had in mind when I mentioned that... but what I really meant is for the group to "own" the sim... be able to change ground textures and set themes... as stated above... gibson would be even cooler if we could get rid of all that growing green stuff on the ground... there's no trees in cyberpunk... :)
