From: NOTE! If you vote yes in the poll in this thread, PLEASE vote for it in JIRA too! If you like my proposal, vote in JIRA! Here's the proposal text: From: Second Life JIRA There are alot of offline LSL script editors these days. I work on scripts offline all the time (because the offline editor I use is much more VB-like), and maybe Linden Lab should release their own offline editor with a function to upload the finished script?. The script will be saved in the Scripts folder, and for, of course, no charge since the creation of scripts is already free. This would make creating scripts much easier. Another cool option is to download scripts you have full perms for, or only your own, to work on them offline. The offline editor could view the inventory, but, only scripts (and all others in certain times when you need a name for llGiveInventory or similar). Wha-da-ya think? Please enter comments only here, I hate it that I can't track proposals :-/ (If I can, PLEASE reply with how lol ). (To vote for it in JIRA, go to proposal VWR-1152 in JIRA, or this link: "https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1152", thanks. Please consider voting in the poll here first.)

Better: create an official plug-n spec that includes a way to add your own script editor plug-in, including ones written in java or shell languages.

Good idea, but the one I originally suggested is an offline editor.

From: Smiley Barry Good idea, but the one I originally suggested is an offline editor. I understand, but the people who specialize in script editors and IDEs will do a better job than the Lindens unless they hire people who specialize in writing script editors and IDEs. The viewer is open source anyway, so this isn't likely to happen since they are apparently trying to concentrate most of their efforts on the server side and get the viewer written mostly by non-Linden people or such is my impression of their goal.

Yeah, I can't wait until someone makes SL have some Sims 2 key UI features - the neighborhood view, optimized for regions in SL, better UI looks and features, and more.

Really, at least an interface to upload scripts or other information would be nice. If they created an API for that interface then either LL could make an offline editor, or those that have already created offline editors can update or create plugins so you can upload. I've been using Eclipse with an SVN repository, and it doesn't seem like it would all that different to have one that can "send" a script to an SL account or bulk upload even from within SL like is done for images. I did notice this a while back... "* Asset upload and inventory creation now supported via a web service (for upcoming viewers)" on their blog post: http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/03/13/time-change-maintenance-downtime-wednesday-march-14/#more-832Which means that the capability is likely close to being there. But that was 3 months ago!!!

i can already edit lsl in any text editor
and i can mostly fake lsl's syntax highlighting with any ide that supports php, or real highlighting with certain editors (such as ScTE which i use for lua)
i can compile using whitehats thingamabob
i can even simulate the script running with other homebrew programs
why would i want something like this?
becuase none of it is official, and i dont always know the results are 100% accurate becuase none of us know exactly how the lsl VM works
who does? da labs do
shure vote for this, but dont expect me to be holding my breath
