HUD often blocks the view, esp. when something other windows pop up from behind, so it would be nice that HUD can be set with alpha-channel for transparency, or that it can be minimized, so we can see what is behind it for a moment.

Some HUDs minimize, I guess it depends if the creator made it to or not

This is a stupidly unreasonable proposal. 99% of content, including hud attachments, are made by residents.
If you want your huds to minimise, contact the creators about them. Linden labs cannot do anything here. And you are wasting time and votes asking them to.

The View menu has an option to toggle the display of HUD attachments, View / Show HUD attachments, with a keyboard shortcut of Alt-Shift-H. Does that not serve the poster's purpose?

WarKirby It takes a stupid idiot to give a stupid answer. Most often encountered HUDs are the Teleport request generated when someone asks you to join them in their location. If you want to finish what you are doing before teleporting, the irritating HUD blocks the view of everything underneath it, esp. the mini-map, etc. If you cancel the teleport request, you lost it forever unless you IM the person back to send you another TP request. So it's Linden lab who did it, not any other creator of HUD objects, duh!!!

Ah but you're not talking about huds then, those are dialogs and windows. Please get the terms right before calling someone stupid.
Windows already can be minimised, dialogs can't but then again dialogs are always in the same position so you can easely avoid windows and huds being covered by them.
