Proposal – new pose that puts you on a cell phone call when in IM
Due to people getting frustrated while trying to chat with others while they are talking in IM, I propose that when you start or engage in IM with a friend you have the option of holding a cell phone to your ear in order to indicate that you are talking to someone and might not be watching the chat that is rolling across the screen. When you close IM you put the phone away to indicate that your attention is now back to your current surroundings. This would help to end a lot of confusion that occurs when too many things are going on at once and otherwise nice helpful people appear to be rude by ignoring you because they are in some other conversation. This could also lead to the creation of different cell phone objects that could be bought or sold in SL, not to mention ring tones that could sound when someone IM’s you.
Thoughts????

From: Sasha Mariani Proposal – new pose that puts you on a cell phone call when in IM I support this product and/or service. Also, one for when you're filing a bug report. That can take a while, and is unfortunately common.

But adding one in for the bug-report window might be introduce 500 new bugs Would be nice though, but similarly you get script windows and notecards. Better then might be a 'reading' animation that plays whenever a textual window such IMs, notecards, scripts and bug-reports gains focus, or perhaps more specifically when a text-field that is NOT the chat bar gains focus. This way it indicates that you're reading/focusing on something that removes your attention from the visible world? I'd have a user-definable delay as well to prevent it coming up all the time, ie; you focus on something, SL waits 2 seconds, if you're still focused there then the animation begins, otherwise your avatar does nothing. To prevent your avatar throwing their arms around all the time as you flick through windows.

As long as you include an option to not go into it. I, for one, want my private messages to stay private, and it would screw up IM cybersex for beds and poseballs. If its an all or nothing type of pose- nothing.

It would have to be optional

It seems to me that when I'm in an animation already, like dancing, my other animations don't kick in like the AV typing when you chat. So if you are dancing or playing it would not happen. Maybe you could just have a placeholder, like a gesture, where you could plug in a script or something you could turn on or off by the hud. All I know is that it drives me crazy when in public and people are trying to chat while I'm in a long distance conversation with someone.
I guess that's why I posted this, in order to get some good input on how it would work, so I can propose something that would really solve the problem. So feel free to modify my suggestion.
Thanx.

An option in the IM windows, a check box that says "Take as call", that way when you are in the IM and check that check box the phone comes out or otherwise it does not. maybe that would solve the problem.

An EXCELLENT idea! I don't know how many times I have missed conversations because of being in IM land.

How about just making the avatar go into the 'Away' pose when focus is no longer on the world view for more than 30 seconds?. This would cover everything.
