Stop Taking Away Good Features

I figured there were so many posts about good features getting taken away, might as well start a thread that lists all the features that have been taken away that we want back. Alot of these theres no reason they should have been taken away (atleast to my knowledge), and should have just been added to the options we have. You can never have too many features!

So if you have one you want to add, go for it.

Heres Some:

Release/Claim on objects, this features had many uses and still does today, theres plenty of room on the pie menu, why get rid of this?

Draw Distance on your land, this feature has been gone since 1.1 I think, where you could set the draw distance on your land and it would have a "fog" around it, theres alot of good reasons for this, and you could add in a "Don't Override My Draw Distance" option to the preferences for those who don't like it.

Inventory Auto Closing Folders On Exit, you all know this one.

How Many Sqm are in selected land in About Land window.

Focus On
Drop Trou (remove all clothing)
Attach items to neck (if Launa is wrong about this I am going to kill her :) )
Keyboard shortcut to actually stand up from sitting

That's all I can think of to augment your list.

And if that doesn't work, you're already on your way to typeing the other three letters in chat which would be the next appropriate response! (F!@#)

Somehow pressing M,F, then ESC to get back out of mouselook mode is not a shortcut lol

I don't remember ever being able to attach to neck. All my neck attachments have always attached to chest going back months and months.

I agree on the rest. It's a pain when something good or at least inoffensive disapears.

Bump for 1.3...

We did get back the Sqm listing and the Close All Folders button on the inventory will be nice.

But I want back the Release option for objects and the draw distance on land option!!

Grawr don't make me whip out my torch and pitch fork! :P

You know, I used to agree about Release, but it's not required. Just set to For Sale: Original for $1. Heck, that's even cheaper than Release was.

Unless you have some desire to make things Public ownership, maybe to bring back nostalgia of decay to Public on public land?

Here's a feature that's not gone yet, but I fear in small dark recesses of my heart that it will be shortly (mostly because I've spent a couple weeks working on a major section of the GameDev that relies on this)...

llSitTarget().

I fear they'll put limitations on it. That'd be bad.

Uh oh.

In 1.3 preview the maximum distance you can set on llSitTarget is 10m. This destroys it's secondary use as a way to instantly position your avatar any further away than this distance.

They already have Moleculor I was working with it to do teleportation and found in the 1.3 preview its been limited to only go a certain distance (which is good I suppose, but makes some things not possible). I'm not sure on the exact distance that its been shortened too, but I had it set to go -157 and it definitly didn't go that far.

As for the Release, thats true Cienna, but thats an added un-needed step to do: Make sure all permissions are checked, set for sale(make sure sell original is selected), person buys object, give back money.

Where you could just do Release and acheive all that with one click. Its not like we don't have the room for it on the Pie menu, and its not hurting anything, it may not be the most usefull tool but it still has a purpose.

D'oh Kex, not only are you faster but more informative too. :P

Since 1.2, Shift-Home and shift-end are no longer work for text on the chat entry bar starting with a slash. I have to conclude that this functionality is deliberate, though shift-home and shift-end were broken altogether in the 1.2 preview and 1.3 pre-preview (1.2.101).

I miss being able to hit tab while sitting and have my av look at the last person who spoke as well.

*scream*

There goes a couple of weeks worth of work on the GameDev, PLUS the necessity to RESTRUCTURE THE ENTIRE F-ING GAME!!!

God damn you Lindens! God damn you!

I honestly don't see the harm in allowing us to use llSitTarget() to move around instantly *within* the sim. It's not like we're using it to teleport to an arbitrary position in the world. And as a bonus, it allows us to instantly move up to locations high in the sky without requiring an elevator script.

Please consider leaving llSitTarget() in as it is now in 1.2.13, or at the least give us an llTeleport() function that lets us move around instantly (ie no load screen) to an arbitrary location within the current sim.

I'm going into the 1.3 preview, verifying this, and then posting a bug report.

I can just see this breaking people's vehicles, like yachts 'n such, in SL.

Why the bloody hell must LL limit EVERY form of non-flight transportation to 10m? First llSetPos, now llSitTarget. And bloody hell, they've just completely screwed up a network of about FIFTY teleporters I was almost finished with, all within a sim.

[Edit]THANK GOD. Apparently the transport system in that Clovers place in one of the PG sims caught the eye of one of the Lindens, and they figured out that changing the distance to 10m would break more than one or two things, so they increased the max distance to 300m. I still have to verify that our gaming area is close to 300m long, but it's better than 10m....

But freakin' 'ell, if they can do 300m, why must it be limited at ALL? Surely there's no code related reason for the limitation, if it can still be within 300m.[/edit]

[edit2]Oh. 300m IS a sim's size, isn't it?[/edit2]

[edit3]It still breaks a teleporter in Seacliff that goes up about 550m.[/edit3]

Hah! You beat me to it... I was just looking at the release notes and came back here to report the following:

* llSitTarget() maximum distance increased to 300 meters.

Yay! Thank you LL! You all truly rock! :D

Sims are 256x256m.

What's the purpose of such a large distance for llSitTarget? What does that enable you guys to do?

Psh. They don't rock. They limited the previously unlimited llSitTarget, then increased the limit. How is that 'rocking'? llSitTarget is still limited where it wasn't limited at one time.

Corner to corner, Julian.

256 on a side, 362 from corner to corner.

Sure, 300 != 362, but it's a relatively safe bet that you're not going to be setting up teleporters from one EXTREME corner of a sim to another... and you'd have to try hard to get it to 'port you PAST another sim. Which is the ONLY possible reason I can see them limiting this at all...

I'm going to miss the ability to do long distance cross-sim teleports. Those were fun.

To post a one-character (do graphical emoticons count as characters now?) post with a 10-line signature? :)

Some more good features taken away:

You used to be able to set your Home to any property that had "Allow Others To Set Home Here" checked. Now, you can't set home to any property other than your own, and you don't have the ability to let others set their home location to your land.

Also, while not a client feature, it was a good feature...

You used to have to click a button to register your account (and switch over to paying) after your free trial was over. Thats how ALL free trials on the internet should work, Opt-IN. Now, you have to click if you DON'T want to switch over and you want to cancel your account... sadly this is how most internet trials work... and are mostly hated, this is Opt-OUT, and UGH.

I personaly would have been more reluctant to do the trial if it had been Opt-out instead of opt-in.

PLEASE switch back to the above and put those features back in.

Agreed Oz. If this is the case, it's a bad move that will be detected by the wise among us and become an immediate red flag that will tarnish the first impression of LL.

Of course it'll help rake in forgetful people who didn't really intend to sign up and maybe nudge a few people in who are sitting on the fence, but I really don't think it's worth it for the bad word-of-mouth that will be caused by those few people who get quite upset they were charged unexpectantly.
