It could be useful to add the possibility to preview a cloth by selecting a cloth in the inventory, clicking by RMB, and selecting from menu PREVIEW. So you can see the cloth on a generic avatar figure (as it appears when you upload an animation) without wearing it.
An alternative might be a cloth browser, that is a small application that can show all clothes in your inventory as worn.
Such a small application could be created as a plug-in if Linden would introduce in future a plug-in mechanism to allow developers to create simple extensions to the SL viewer.
