i'm just a beginner with building stuff so maybe an older person has a solution but it's really really hard to build things for attachments that have more than 1 piece. once it's attached you can't move the pieces around so you just have to edit it off your body and hope for the best. well my best isn't good enough! Fleabite told me most people just edit it around themselves but i can't stop figetting. can we please please be able to edit attached things just like they weren't attached? or at least can we have some way of holding totally perfectly still? when i edit an attachment just to move the whole thing into place my avatar doesn't move a bit but when i'm editting for real it's like i hoad too many bowls of chocolate sugar bombs. this is all i want for Christmas and my birthday ever. pleeeeeease Lindens. i'll be your best friend too.

This sorta thing depends on what exactly you're trying to do with whatever it is you're attaching. Since it sounds to me like you're attaching linked objects, what you have to realize is that the last object you select before linking becomes the "parent" object. You can see which this is by simply clicking your object and looking at the yellow highlighted piece, the other pieces should be highlighted in gray. This is important to know because it is the parent object that is centered around whichever body part it is you chose to attach your object to. Hope this helps. As for freezing your avatar, yeah, we've all been asking for that command, still dunno why we don't have it yet If you're trying to attach somthing to your eyes, that's the most impossible thing to do if the object is small. Otherwise, right clicking on the attachment and going to edit does sometimes freeze your avatar enough so you can correctly move it around. Good luck!

thanx for the advice Dave. that stuff about parent objects explains why my stuff mysteriously stops attaching right sometimes hehe.. the reason i was asking for this tho was so i can make really complicated attachements that have to line up (for example) with my forehead ears and ponytail all at once. after something's attached it's easy to move it around to where you want it but it's hard hard hard to get lots of parts to all line up right together. so far it looks like you just have to edit it on the ground then cross your fingers and attach it then take it off and adjust it then repeat a million times.

Damiana, if there was a way to make the body stop moving for a while, you could just line up the objects in the air in their proper positions (not attached, just in the right place) then attach and rotate/position them to the proper place.
As it is, you can do this a bit... but heads swivel and bodies twinge a lot. (:
