I understand there is talk of a contract idea going on now. This idea can either be part of that one, or separate. Here it is:
It would be interesting if a project (or object) could have shareholders. That way, when an object is sold (or admission is paid, or whatever) based on how many shares a person holds in the object, they could get paid accordingly.
Suppose one person creates an object, and later on two other people contribute one texture each, and another contributes a script. Now, when the object gets sold, the cash gets split based on how many shares are held by each shareholder.
The main creator might serve as the clearing house and make deals on how many shares are traded per contribution. Or this could be decided by the project team.
This would... make it easier to price contributions, because you'd not have to guess in advance on the worth of the piece for use in the future, and perhaps also, stocks could be assigned to uninvolved people or bank accounts of other 'projects' as a charity contribution.

i'm not sure how useful this would be for objects. It sounds far too complicated. For Projects it could be a really good idea though. Cash from Daily votes could be split up like dividends. It would encourage players with cash to fund new ventures even though they may not have the time to work on it themselves. The pay off would be a small daily trickle of money. Become a shareholder in enough profitable projects and that amount could grow. Of course this leads to the idea of a stock exchange. How far should an idea like this go?

I like that, especially since time in world is limited right now. Most of us find ourselves socializing instead of working. The investments could possibly allow people with a lot of skill to produce better objects if they have more money. It would add such a cool dimension of gameplay.

This is a really really really good idea. It will allow people who help with difficult projects to gain a small compensation from that help (aside from the satisfaction of assisting friends that is)
though to note.
this will make Nada the RICHEST bugger in the whole game. *winks*

I think we can do this now, unless there's a facet I'm not keying into. If so, please let me know.
- For splitting object profits. Datura and I collaborated on a pair of wings. It's got a script that, each time the wings are sold, sends the percentage we agreed upon to each of us.
- For small builds -- let's say a house or a small shop, each person involved puts up a vote box -- Charlie and Jean and Lynnix's castle is a good example. Or the little shop that Val and I share.
- For large projects, let's say people make a decision to build a museum. Some of those people build, some contribute textures or scripts, and others maybe just put up funding. When the museum opens, there's an entrance fee and a little gift shop. The L$ from the entrance fee and gift sales is split among all participants for the agreed upon percentages using a script such as that which Datura and I use.
Hope this is useful info - Kerstin

I had agreed to invest in a theatre troupe a while back, but they seem so have dissolved...Luckily I din't invest anything except a script and a buncha land. But from that experience, I was pretty excited about being a "virtual shareholder" and would do it agian (if I was convinced that my resources would help users who stuck around).
