Hi Everybody!

I've started a site, and group for the people who can't or don't want to use voice when it comes in.

I know that those of you who are excited about voice will think this is strange, but there are hundreds of reasons that folks may choose not to "Voice". People who can't speak, like myself (throat cancer as a teen) or just don't like their voice and find an escape from that here... even celebrities trying for a little interaction and anonimity that they can't find in RL. So many reasons.

Please understand, We ARE NOT anti-voice! We believe its a great thing for those who want it!

I just think that during the period of adjustment, when the pro-voice are gung-ho there may be some discomfort for us voiceless. Feeling out of place, left behind, or even worse pestered and harrased by those who don't understand.

I've just started up, have a site in the works, but really need group members before they shut down the group for too few users while I get it going, so I'm asking for a hand and a few charter members.

IM me ( Juicee Voom ) and I'll send you an invite, or search Speak No Evil under groups, and Have a look at the site's humble beginnings. I there will be a page explaining the issues, and some suggestions for answers to people who question our choice.

Hey!

I know that there are text-to-speech programs out there that could help you voice your opinion in the same way as everyone else using voice in SL. You may/may not want to use these programs but I guess either way... you'll be typing.

that programs "tex-to-speech" do not sound good at all to be honest , after hearing for some time those computer voices it starts to get annoying

Isn't the voice feature entirely optional? Anyone know?

Voice is currently only in the First look Viewer.

And yes, voice is always optional. You can enable it and disable it.

I think the OP's arguement was that those in SL who do not use voice are likely to become marginalized when voice becomes standard. This group is a good idea. I plan on using voice, but then again, I was winning singing contests when I was six. I was vocally blessed. Not everyone was.
