Today I was invited by a dear friend to check out a "slick" new shopping system.
Not knowing what to think, but always excited to see something new I went to see what the big deal was and within minutes I had set up a new 'shop' on MetaMart. HUD Driven, web-based shopping...awesome for the shopping addicted and a breeze to set up for merchants.

So, it took me about 2-5 min to set up an account and list my first item to sell...and as I tinker with my new found friend it sends me a message...about the MetaMart Raffle! I dont normally play raffles but ...was feeling feeling lucky...SL had treated me well today, I would try my luck a bit more...and...I WON! Yes...I know, You say "no SL day is that good" ...it was for me, today.

So find MetaMart and grab a hud or become a partner...

I think you either have a misunderstanding about what a pyramid scheme is, or have a misunderstanding about what Meta Mart does. Or both.

The MetaMart is a search engine for SL goods, much like amazon.com is for the RL.

I have tried MetaMart HUd and I was impressed enough to sign up to help distirbuted it. As a guy, I hate TPing all over kingdom come to shop for stuff, and MetaMart lets me do alot of shopping quickly.

I've had the good fortune to experience the MM Hud and shopping experience. Similar in concept to SLX (a merchant lists items free and the sales venue gets a % of that sale), yet in world, and even better. What can I say. I love my MM HUD. I do wish more merchants would list product there. I see that some of SL's designers are jumping on board now. In fact, this company is Innovative. If this company gives incentive for marketing, then I think that's smart. The joy is not to be sales people but to get HUD shopping! It's a new concept and fun too.

Thanks to Zoe and Fleche and Savannah - for your belief in Meta Mart we really are working very hard to make this system as good as we possibly can.

As for your reply Brent - you probably misunderstood Meta Mart's business model- Meta Mart is the opposite to Pyramid scheme...

let me quote something from that Wikipedia post that you gave here :
"A pyramid scheme (also known as "Pyramid Scam" [1]) is a non-sustainable business model that involves the exchange of money primarily for enrolling other people into the scheme, usually without any product or service being delivered.

Well - Meta Mart is totally the opposite to that!

- yes we pay people for bringing in new merchants or customers to Meta Mart,
but ...
- we only pay when actual purchase or a sale takes place.. and this is very real.
- we share 50% of our own income
- we mean no confusion and no scam - everything is very transparent with Meta Mart

Also let me quote this Wikipedia article once again:
" There are other commercial models using cross-selling such as multi-level marketing (MLM) or party planning which are legal and sustainable. "

Meta Mart's model reminds MLM in some way...also it reminds Google AdSense a lot, just transfered into 3D world and I guess you could never call Google AdSense a Pyramid scheme!

Hi Robbie , hi Savannah, good to see you two here. It has been a while since we talk after the MetaMart demo at our event. Hi Zoe and Fleche, let me welcome you as I am one of the happy users of Meta Mart. I also test the MetaRaffle last night to see how it works. And to my surprise, I was a winner, not once by twice, wow. That was a fun testing experience. I am sure the Meta Mart development team will be adding more features soon to this innovative HUD. And Robbie, please IM me so we can start working some of the marketing materials as we talked about months ago or even last year

I discovered Meta Mart the other night, and I'm impressed. It is clear from the moment you wear the HUD that this has taken a lot of development to reach a state of such intuitive and smooth operation.

My first impression with the HUD was so good, I could not resist listing a few of my items for sale on it... The process could not have been quicker or easier.

I would definitely rate this with five stars. I think it is highly polished and shows an attention to detail and performance that I've seen attempted before, but never successfully, until now.

This is a success story, and if you don't check it out, it's your loss. It's like SLX in a HUD! But with no tabbing out to the web to shop, and no hunting down an in-world ATM to deposit or withdraw funds.

Hmm, i like the concept, too bad it had to be ruined by adding in gambling. pass.

Meta Mart is a Search Engine - and SL is for fun to most people and Search Engines - usually are not much of a fun ) you will find lots of nice and interesting items on Meta Mart - I can't argue that, but still it's not like taking a gun fight with your friends, or sailing on a yacht, or having that dance with your freinds.. I hope you get the point.

Gambling... Well I think gambling is dangerous, addictive, one can loose all his money because of gambling.. but MetaRaffle isn't that true gambling... it's merely a simple game meant for no other purpose than some FUN!

Just think about it :
- [Gambling : you can lose all your money] In MetaRaffle it's only L$10 an entry...Now you would have to be really nuts to spend all your money clicking on that button, one entry only L$10. So there is no way for you to lose all your money, that's just not going to happen
- [Gambling : is addictive and dangerous] : not MetaRaffle case - you see how your friends compete for one or the other session pot, you might enter one or two times to see how your luck goes, but that's it - just pure fun - but it's actually not about money, just for fun...

And please read this:
- We are committing to give back 50..70% of our income, that will come from MetaRaffle, back to Second Life community( we stated that on our blog : metamart.blogspot.com ) the rest will go towards keeping the system alive : server, tier and other expenses.

We have not made MetaRaffle to make loads of money, it's just some fun game for you...nothing more! So hey - if you ever decide that it's ruining the product, please be vocal and we will simply take it off( we have forum, blog, you can IM me, there really are a number of ways to reach us..)

I'd be interested to know how you would guarantee that a script which has debit permissons wouldn't drain the entire L$ balance due to a bad intent or as the result of a bug/exploit.

Are you personally putting yourself liable for any losses suffered? Or was that whole "no way for you to lose all your money" just a sales pitch?

Thanks for your question, Let me try to answer it Kitty,

first of all - HUD's cannot have debit permissions, so there is really no way that HUD can take money from your SL account, that really is not going to happen!

Secondly I was referring more to something called "common sense". Meta Raffle works that way.
- First you deposit some L$ into your Meta Mart account ( similar way as you do with SLX or SLB accounts)
- then you can use these funds to purchase items on Meta Mart or enter MetaRaffle.
- Entering MetaRaffle is done by choosing one of the sessions( Daily, weekly etc...) and clicking on the button ( which sends the message to our server, which marks it - that you have just entered a particular raffle)

Now if you would want to lose all your money :
- first you would have to deposit all your money into Meta Mart Account
- secondly you would have to click many many times ( depending on how much L$ you have ) on a certain Raffle session button to actually loose all your money ( and you would probably end up wining, because you would have the most tickets for sure , and probability of wining in this case increases with the number of times you enter it)

So by saying ".. there is no way for you to lose all your money, that's just not going to happen.." I was meaning - that no sane person would go through all that... MetaRaffle is really just a fun simple game, not something that you will get addicted to and I think this is why MetaRaffle doesn't qualify to be called - gambling!

Hope you tried Meta Mart HUD yourself - if you did I hope you got the feeling that we really take it very seriously.

And yes - I am putting myself personally liable for any losses suffered! We really mean no harm, we have been here for a while and intend to be for much longer - to provide you most relevant Search results. Being malicious - is just not our way

As for bugs - system has been tested heavily up to this moment.. All L$ transactions are very safe... But if you still happen to find any bugs - please do inform us, we will fix them ASAP!
