Hi, my name is Iono Boa. I've been working on a non-profit mining system for Second Life and wanted to get some input from the croud. The system is currently up and working, but has alot of room for improvement.

Our website is : www.slmining.com
Location : Amberaldus (221,53,81)
Classified Search : SLMining

To use the mining system, visit the mining camp to acquire a mining pick. The mining camp is located Amberaldus (221,53,81). To use a pick simply equip it and left click on the nearby ground. Each pick has a limited number of digs available to it. When the digs have all been used it can be discarded. While digging, the pick will whisper to you when you have found a deposit. You will also be informed of the type of mineral found and its value. You receive payment for the value of the deposit immediately.

The mining system is perpetual which means all income, from the sale of picks, is directly converted into mineral deposits. This allows the deposits to grow in proportion to the usage. A given deposit can be found in one of 3 depth ranges. Each depth range has a corresponding pick that is capable of detecting minerals within that range.

When a mineral deposit is discovered, payment is made to the claim owner immediately and a new deposit is spawned somewhere else in SL. Every deposit has physical location in SL and our database currently has over 20k deposits distributed throughout SL. This means you can mine anywhere in SL.

When a pick is purchased a percentage of the income goes to 3 random deposits, one in each of the 3 depth ranges. The percentage that goes to each depth range is tunable based on the number of users within each range.

The minerals found in SL are listed below with their corresponding depth ranges.

Level 1 (Depth Range = -100 to 0)
Quartz
Calcium
Sulfer
Pyrite
Obsidian

Level 2 (Depth Range = -200 to -100)
Beryl
Tourmaline
Cordierite
Onyx
Amethyst

Level 3 (Depth Range = -300 to -200)
Diamond
Gold
Silver
Platinum
Silver

I hope my description has been adequate, if you have questions or suggestions please respond to this thread as your opinions are welcome.

Thanks

Wow, sounds interesting but does it work like camping for newbies, in otherwords we give them a free pick and let them use it?

Its not like camping as it requires more thought and interaction. The picks are purchased and the proceeds from the sale goes back into the mining deposits. So it literally becomes a perpetual system where the deposits grow in relation to the usage.

Kinda like a variation on the sploder. Sounds like it may be fun, I'm gonna check it out later. It's different at least.

Tried it. It's something different. How about changing the digging animation. ^_^

Maybe I missed something?

I went to check this out. Bought a level 1 pick, and a level 1 coordinate. Went there and dug up $1 worth of calcium. Tried digging at a few random spots, had a couple of more hits. Cool, neat idea and I'm having fun so far.

I went back to the store and bought the level 1 treasure map. I know this is new and the map is only $5. But all I got was a link to a webpage that basically had no info other than a video ad. Did I miss something?

Other than the map, great idea, good fun, good luck with it. :)

Yep, I need to work on the map concept. The map loads in the web browser so you need to give it a few seconds to load.

As far as the animation, I'm kinda new to creating them. Any pointers to some good tools would help a lot.
