So the country that never wins a thing has won something. We'll be doing the Olympics in 2012. For me, that gives me some new faith that our country can actually achieve things. Now let's not screw it up

I don't know... The high taxes, the run down state of the NHS, the trains, everything... The constant battle to win either the Euro or the World Cup things... Can make you think England is a bit shabby. But hey, today proves we can still pull off major sucesses. Now if we can just make a success of 2012 we'll all have a reason to smile for a long time after

It's fantastic news! I'm really pleased we've got the Olympics and that my kids will be old enough (11 and 9 when it happens) to enjoy it in 2012. Now, when do tickets go on sale......

Now if we can just make a success of 2012 we'll all have a reason to smile for a long time after Well we got the European football finals in 1996, then we had the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in the last few years (OK, the Commonwealth games is a fairly closed shop but it was a good event, large and well run). So I don't think we've done too badly in all honesty. The Olympics is the thing that's eluded us for a long time, and I guess a lot of people have taken that to mean that we don't win anything big and exciting - but we have done.

From: Hiro Queso -Rugby Union fan. Me too, but let's never talk about the Lions again Hopefully we'll defeat the old enemy in cricket this summer as well! For the first time in years we're looking good for the Ashes. *fingers crossed*

Personally I'd have preferred to see it in Paris. Let the French waste a monumental amount of money putting it on, and it's close enough to just hop on a train if you really are interested enough to want to see it

Make mental note to self, do NOT visit london in 7yrs time. Well we will probably be too busy taking part/watching the SL olympics by that point. How cool would that be? Although completely against what the London campaign was all about lol
