Dear GOM users, It is with both great sadness and great joy that I announce my pseudo-retirement. Effective May 1st, Tom Merrall will take over the day-to-day operations of GOM and the position of President of Gaming Open Market. After working with him on this project for the past year and a half, I feel completely confident in his abilities to keep things running smoothly and to continue growing the company. I say "great sadness" because I have thoroughly enjoyed this thought-experiment-turned-successful-business. I have put a great deal of my life into this website and the business behind it, and I can honestly say that a very large part of me will miss it. We've broken a lot of interesting ground, met a lot of interesting people. The experience has been a blast! I say "great joy" because within a month my wife will deliver our second child. And as much fun as GOM has been, I am so looking forward to spending all my free time on this new project. I need the time and the headspace to give back to my family the time that I have spent on GOM over the past year and a half. I am certain that you understand. As far as operations go, you will notice very little difference. Tom will take over the Zeppi Schlegel avatar as well as most support issues. If you have any troubles at all, please don't hesitate to contact him either directly via his email address (tom@gamingopenmarket.com), via his avatars (Ricky Zamboni and now Zeppi Schlegel) or better still, through the support page on the GOM site. Through my day-job, I have picked up an appreciation of accounting. I will continue to work on GOM in the "back room" cooking the books and doing the taxes. For the near future, I will still be sending the money order withdrawals so please continue to send me those requests. I will still be writing a bit of code here and there, so you might catch me lurking on the forums for ideas. This is *not* a permanent move. I look forward to returning to work on the project, but I can't say for certain when that will be. In the meantime, I *can* say for certain that Tom will keep the level of service as high as it has always been - if not higher. Thank you for all the kind and supportive words you've sent. They have all been taken to heart. Have fun! Trade smart! Jamie Hale Soon-to-be Ex-President - Gaming Open Market Corp. jamie@gamingopenmarket.com

Interesting.
So does this mean that we can transfer our avatars to other people?

From: blaze Spinnaker So does this mean that we can transfer our avatars to other people? I would imagine that the avatars GOM uses for trading purposes (Zeppi & Ricky) are probably used by both players on a regular basis. Also, they must surely have the GOM tied into their billing and mailing addresses, which is the real issue when it comes to trading accounts around. Another example of joint accounts would be Wilde Cunningham, the group of folks who are in an adult home living situation who share one account. Their situation has been widely publicized, and LL seems to have no problems with it. Given the level of cooperation the Lindens have demonstrated with the GOM, I doubt they're too worried about this small change. Good luck, Jamie, with your new "project." I hope all goes smoothly and you're back to SL some time in the near future.

So does this mean that we can transfer our avatars to other people? Read the TOS blaze. And I believe we both know the answer to that question.

OK, no more reading the forums until I've had my morning jolt of caffeine and gotten my vision unblurred. For a split second, I read "Letter from mom when you log in" Talk about a heart attack...because if anybody could pull that kind of spooky stuff off, my Mom could -- jj

Best of luck Jamie! I, too, am heading towards an important milestone... RL marriage! I guarantee it will last longer than the average SL marriage. You've always been a pleasure to work with, do charity with, and most importantly have been a real asset to the SL community. Jennyfur and I offer our best in your "new job". Regards, -Flip

Excellent point, Beryl. Perhaps there should be a flag in an Avatar that it may be transfered among several different people.

From: blaze Spinnaker Excellent point, Beryl.
Perhaps there should be a flag in an Avatar that it may be transfered among several different people. Er, why? What difference does it make? And how would LL know?? Along those lines, perhaps LL should flag people in-game who post more than 100,000 words per day in forums... or who have had forum or game suspensions or warnings... or who have called LL by phone more than five times... or, or, or... What is it you think we need protected from, blaze? This seems similar to the "let's connect all alts to their main account" argument, which I don't agree with, either. This really isn't anybody's business.

Well, transfering ALTs is against the rules for good reasons I won't go into (don't want to give people ideas).

From: blaze Spinnaker Well, right now you can only have a few ALTs.
What if I offered every new user 20$ to register and sell me their ALTs? This thread isn't about alts; I'm sorry if I appeared to veer off-topic in my examples. (And there are people who have more than a few alts since they made them before LL instigated the ruling that you can only have five avs per person). It's LL's business to investigate this stuff, and it's LL's business to worry about it, not mine. (Edit: Wow, you completely changed your post just before I responded to it, blaze. )
