I have no idea, but given the time of occurance (2am), and forwarning (MOTD stated it'd be down long beforehand), I suspect the network is being monkeyed with, vs an actual update to the game servers themselves.

They may have patched an exploit. Brent mentioned something about a known problem where it was possible to duplicate no-copy items.

My guess would be an exploit fix, and part of the reason they may not want to give details is to avoid people monkeying about in a similar fashion trying to find another loophole.
If these schmucks spent as much time learning to create as they did trying to find exploits, they wouldn't need the exploits! (This, of course, excepts people who find exploits in the normal course of SL and dutifully report them.) Argh!
